My 'C0ck fan niece sent me this. Seems they've found a little known codicil in the Faber College constitution...South Carolina Co-National BB Champions.
Hoops crisis: An asterisk now has been attached to Florida's national-championship aspirations.
When the contract was signed that gave the NCAA ownership of the National Invitation Tournament, a concession was made that potentially could transform March Madness into April Anarchy. Section VII, Article 50.5a of the NCAA/NIT Merger agreement states:
“Co-champions of college basketball will be recognized whenever the NIT winner holds an edge over the champion of the NCAA tournament in head-to-head meetings during the season, and when at least one victory occurs within sixty (60) days of the date of the national championship game.”
NIT champion South Carolina swept two games from Florida this season, including a 71-67 win in Gainesville on Feb. 8. Although the Gators defeated the Gamecocks 49-47 in the SEC title game, the hoops loophole still would be triggered Monday if Florida wins the NCAA championship.
