View Full Version : Where should I go on holiday?

Thailand has a four-day weekend next week for the Songkran (Thai New Year) holiday.

I only started thinking today about where to go on holiday.

I want to go somewhere cool – either mountains or sea – since April is the hottest month of the year for Thailand and neighboring countries. For this reason, I’ve left Cambodia and Angkor Wat off the list.

I want a direct flight to be not more than 2-3 hours. I don’t want to catch too many connecting flights, bus or trains since I only have four days.

These are my choices. Where should I go?

Mandalay, Burma
Hanoi, Vietnam
Luang Prabang, Laos
Kuming, China
Kathmandu, Nepal

I was going to suggest Silver Dollar City. But that flight is 20 hours?

Heh! If I could make that trip, I would.

Phuket is one of my favorite holiday destinations. I'm not really sure I feel entirely comfortable snorkeling around there now after the tsunami.

Koh Samui is the place to go, but it will be fully booked over the long weekend.

Well, I'll say just Poo-ket from here on out.

While I'm at it, Poo, Poo, Poo and Poo.

I so want to go Nepal and Katmandu.

Except they're having street riots and stuff and I don't suppose I could see much of the Himalayas from inside a hotel room. The shoot-on-sight thingy is the final straw.

I'm gonna be even madder if I lose part of the $1,500 I already forked out on buying the air tickets.

Then, flights to Mandalay, Luang Prabang and Kuming are already fully booked.

My last holiday choice is Hanoi. I just booked the thing over the internet.

Anyone ever been to Hanoi?

I'm no Jane and I'm not staying at the Hilton, I don't think. I've been promised that there is good beer there and croissants.

Regardless, it won't be a bad holiday if I get good beer and croissants.

Sounds like the Tishamingo area. Nice country, I used to camp and fish at Blue River.

The giraffes were pretty cool last time I was there.

Do they have those feinting goats because that would really be the kicker along with beer and croissants.

Nope, closer to Ardmore and the partially completed four-lane cut-through to Madill. What is that? Hwy. 70?

Yep, my family has been there like 95 years. I inherited like a half section (a mile of highway frontage) and as they widen it to four-lane, I'm gonna lose part of my property, hopefully, I don't lose my house.

Good or bad, I don't yet know.
