I'd stop having sex with oumartin's mom if it meant AD would stay around for another year.

I had to stop reading so I'd have something exciting to read in the paper.

OH. MY. GAWD!

He may be the best RB in the history of college football. If he can win the trophy this year, he could be the first to repeat since Archie Griffin. That is intriguing to say the least. That Miami game is definitely on my calendar, too. Maybe he'll listen to all the guys that left early.

“I could see myself being here,” Peterson said. “I ain’t even really been think-ing about that. Plus, we’re playing Miami.

“I’m looking forward to playing Miami...”
Joe C. can be a pretty sly dude. It's even a home game. :D

Wait 'til he starts getting advice from family, friends, and agents at the end of the season. That is when it matters. Okay sorry to be the downer. Hope he stays though.

AD will probably be at that game one way or another. Either on the field or on the sidelines with a fat NFL paycheck. Either way I wish him well. I hope he's knocking Co-Caines on their butts in Norman on that day.

“I’m not worried about that,” Peterson said. “I might be here five years.

“I might be (Jason) White. You never know.”
WOW!

NORMAN -- So, you think the 2006 season will be Adrian Peterson's last at Oklahoma?

Not so fast.

The assumption is that Peterson, OU's record-setting running back, will bolt for pro football after his junior year. NFL teams love Peterson's uncommon blend of power and speed, so much so that he's already viewed as a top-five pick in the '07 draft.

But leaving school early, Peterson said Wednesday, might not be all that.

"All the guys that left early for the NFL, they always tell me, 'Man, stay as long as you can,' " Peterson said.

"Because you get to the next level, it's all business. Me, I could see myself being here for five years. I love being around all the guys and coaches and everything."

Since Peterson hasn't redshirted, his five-year plan would have to include one season lost to injury.

"I might be here five years like (Jason) White," he said.

But White was hurt three times and got a medical hardship to play six years.

Any chance of Peterson being a six-year guy?

"Mmm," he smiled, "five."

Another lure is that of a marquee opponent

in 2007, when OU starts a home-and-home series with Miami.

"I'd like to play Miami, too," Peterson said. "I'm looking forward to that."

Peterson and his teammates Wednesday completed their 10th of 15 spring practices. Some think Peterson has little room to improve, but this spring represents a significant period of growth for the player many consider college football's best running back.

"He's got a whole lot to work on," said running backs coach Cale Gundy. "Timing, footwork, understanding blocking schemes, going north and south and not wasting time going sideways . . . which he's made really good strides at. We've been really impressed."

Gundy said Peterson can improve his ball security. A handful of fumbles last season were critical.

"Ball security," Peterson said, "that's the No. 1 thing, to take care of the ball."

Coaches also want Peterson to become a better receiver, and new offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has put Peterson at the end of several new screen passes.

Considering Peterson missed most of his first training camp because of a shoulder injury, missed all of last spring after shoulder surgery, and didn't practice a lot last season because of an ankle sprain, this is an important time for him.

"It's been a good spring," Peterson said.

"I've had time to get back in rhythm and everything and learn all the new things we've added to the system. It's really just to get better at different parts of my game . . . all the little things that make you a complete player."

Wilson called Peterson "a very special talent. But I go back to talent versus player. John Daly's a special talent. But is he as good a golfer as the other guys? To have talent is one thing, but it's how you play, how you play without the ball, how you practice. What makes the Michael Jordans and Tiger Woodses different than those other guys that are also pretty talented? That's something we've addressed with him. Because he is good. But how truly great does he want to be? How far does he want to go?

"We feel there's a significant amount of talent. But it's getting the talented guys to be good players."

As a freshman, Peterson ran for 1,925 yards -- a school record and an NCAA record for freshmen -- and 15 touchdowns, was consensus first-team All-American and became the first freshman to finish runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.

As a sophomore, despite the ankle sprain that sidelined him almost four games, he gained 1,108 yards and scored 14 TDs. Peterson said the injury also included a sprain of the Achilles' tendon, which didn't get healthy until January.

Still, he averaged 156.5 yards and two touchdowns in four games after returning.

Peterson's career rushing total of 3,033 yards ranks eighth in school history and is just 1,085 yards short of Billy Sims' OU record of 4,118.

If he doesn't break that record this season -- the Sooners' offensive line is a complete rebuilding project, and the rest of the offense is primarily sophomores -- will Peterson be back for his senior year?

"I hope so," Gundy said. "He has goals. He has things he wants to accomplish in college. I think it's been proven that you don't have to go out as a junior, even though guys might have been the first, second or third pick. You can always come back and possibly have that the following year and continue to grow and mature (in college). We'll wait and see when that time comes. Right now his goals are to win games and help this team be successful."

Said Peterson: "I could see myself being here, you know what I'm saying? But like I said, I really ain't thinking about that.

"I'm just focusing on this season and making a run back to the Big 12 championship and hopefully a national championship."

Wow. Very nice article for gettin' our hopes up. If he *did* come back for his senior year (and wasn't forced to by injury) that'd be the most amazing news for the program.

I fully expect him to leave after this season, and wish him all the best in the NFL, but I'd be totally floored to get him back as a senior.

Just out of curiosity - how many yards does he need for the 1-A rushing record?

I sure wasn't expecting the news of JW coming back for a 'sixth' year, either. I was at Camp Speicher, Iraq when I heard about it, and I was jumping through the roof. That was a few weeks after (before?? - can't remember) I found out about getting AD and RB in the same recruiting class. Not often you steal the two best players in the country from under the noses of your most hated rivals. Hook 'em

I highly doubt he'll be back, but if he did, the 2007 team would be a steamroller, offense and defense.

not to rain on anyone's parade but this is his last year. He'll be ready for the NFL and it would be in his best interest. He's already had issues with class attendence.

It would be great if he did but I'm just being realistic.

Yeah honestly I think even if he declared right now that he would play 4 years I still would be about 95% certain he is going to the NFL. When he took his first carry I considered him a Soph. I think of him as being a senior next year.

If he stays....OMG. I really can't even wrap my head around the idea of that. It is almost impossible to let ourselves even think that, but good googly-goo, would we not be the baddest azz team EVAAAA?!?!

Bomar, AD, DeMarco, and/or Matt Clapp in the backfield; Dukezilla, Braxton, Sherron Moore, Brandon Walker, and Jon Cooper at OL; Jermaine Gresham at TE; Malcolm, Juaquin, and Manuel J/Huggins at WR.....oooooh

McCoy and Granger in the middle(Now that should be a NCAA rules violation) ; Beal and Alan Davis at DE; Reynolds, Lofton, and Box? at LB; Reggie, DJ, Nic Harris, and Keenan Clayton in the backfield.....oooooh

SCARY GOOD!

Well, I didn't know who else to fire in there. Lamont Robinson....Oh crap, I fogot about George Cumby, Jr. (Daniel Tabon) from this year's class....Thanks for pointing that out Sapper.....

As for Box and his commit...I think as long as we play good D this year he'll stay home. I read an article on him that talked about him being blown away when Stoops got on his trail his soph. year.....

If we dont win a NC this year it would better our chances for him to come back.

But which would you rather have? A season where we win a NC and AD doesnt come back. Or a season where we dont win a NC, and AD comes back and we "might" win a NC the next year.

I'm pretty sure I'll take the NC this year and kissing AD goodbye.

Sorry. I guess I meant to say that Adrian Peterson would be listed twice for most yardage in a career. In the Div I-AA section for Georgia Southern, and in the Division I-A section for Oklahoma.

I'm personally hoping he breaks Herschel Walker's 3 season career record this year (5,259 yds), then comes back to break Ron Dayne's 4 season career record (6,397), Adrian Peterson's (the other one) 4 season career mark for all Division I (6,559), and RJ Bower's all-Division career mark (7,353). If anybody can do it, AD can.

You are correct about him being a white kid from a D-III school (Grove City to be exact). Not sure what he is doing now. I think his last pro snap was in 2003.

linky (http://www.gcc.edu/Sports/football/rjbowers.htm) linky2 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=3513)

My point was that he holds the All-Division Rushing Record. I want to see AD up there, but I doubt a D-I player will ever own it again.

The division I all-time leader, Brian Shay (Emporia State) was last spotted in the NFL-Europe (http://www.nfleurope.com/news/archive/14072000_newirons). I don't think he's playing anymore.

The division I-A career leader, Ron Dayne (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187386)(Wisconsin), is with the Denver Broncos. He hasn't lived up to his hype, either.

If AD stays healthy and comes back for his senior year, he will have a shot at all of these records. I wouldn't count on it, though. He can overtake Herschel Walker's 3-year career record this year. That would be good enough for me, especially if another crystal football and guy with the stiff arm trophy end up in the case at the Switzer Center because of it.http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/images/icons/trophy.gif:D
