I filed an Open Records Request for the details of Kelvin Sampson's contract. While his contract at Indiana is not finalized yet (they are apparently disagreeing on some numbers), it is quite likely that he is leaving OU for LESS money.

Just so that I don't steal all my thunder, please read The Norman Transcript tomorrow. I know most have you read that he made about a million at OU and will make an average of 1.5 mil per year at Indiana, I have obtained numbers proving that he made more at OU than the mil per year commonly reported.

So how about that... he leaves OU for less incoming talent, less money and worse facilites. Doesn't this feel like a slap in the face. :(

He was backed in a corner and probably with his ego not too happy about it- this was an out that he could not turn down. With that being said I am excited for the new prospects at OU. Kelvin to me was just not bringing the energy to the program that I believe we should have year in year out- I think he was buring out a bit- and everybody needs a fresh start for optimism including OU.

The point here isn't as much the pay cut as it is the situation. Indiana apparently is in a bit of a budget crisis. They don't have comparable facilities or funding. Frankly, they needed this kind of hire to stay remotely afloat. It looks more and more like Sampson would have left for East Popcorn State if it meant he could get out of here.

Any revenues generated from these endorsements, appearances and sponsors would go to OU. This deal began July 1, 2000 and was originally for $305,000 annually, but increased to $550,000 annually in 2002. Including this separate contract, Sampson earned about $1.81 million during the 2005-06 year at OU.

Now that is some serious scratch.
