Best thing about that (other than the win of course) is that they took a nice chunk out of the Sox pen. They threw 209 pitches in the game.

Good guys up 14-10 heading to the bottom of the 7th in the nightcap after plating 7 in the top. Quite the little donnybrook so far.

I hate to say it.

But I don't see the Sox making the post-season. Not with this bullpen.

They've run out of gas it looks like.

You might want to keep the porcelain handy. 13-5 Yanks in the 8th today. Red Sox pitchers have walked 13 batters so far, including 9 by Beckett.

If you're going to bring Paps in for the 8 inning save, bring him in to start the f'ing inning.

Yup.

Bud,

No, no talk of Francona getting booted out. I think most rational observers see this as a case where injuries hit and the youngsters the Red Sox counted on to come through simply didn't.

Unlike what's happening in Texas, I don't think you can pin much of this on the manager.

Heh, Texas, well thats another thread entirely but yeah those injuries have been pretty bad this year. it looks like Ortiz might not make it back before seasons end either.

They lost the heart of their team when Veritek went down, and now they have lost the soul of the team with the loss of big Papi. The only reason that they may yet still be alive playoff wise, is because the Yankees have almost as bad of pitching staff as the Red Sox do.

Yankees will probably end up with the best record in the AL, and maybe overall if the Mets slow down any. It also looks like Jeter may win the batting title and MVP. Wang has to be considered for the Cy Young.

r5TPsooner
9/7/2006, 12:07 PM
I hate to admit it, but Jeter is a hitting machine this year. If he keeps it up he should win the MVP going away with Ortz on the shelf.

I agree, and Torre should be manager of the year.

r5TPsooner
9/7/2006, 04:15 PM
How do you baseball fans feel about a pitcher winning the MVP award? I personally think that the Cy Young award is there MVP award.

Salt City Sooner
9/7/2006, 04:43 PM
I don't have a problem with it if the year's good enough. If a guy goes out & pulls say, a '78 Guidry (25-3, 1.74 ERA w/ 9 shutouts) & leads them to a title, then so be it. He was definitely the Yanks MVP that year (no batter for NY hit 30 HR's or drove in 100 runs, & only Piniella broke .300), & as far as I'm concerned, every bit as deserving as Rice was. The thing is, with today's 5 man rotations, plus the pitch count being watched as closely as it is, that type of year is next to impossible to attain. Heck, to date this year, C.C. Sabathia leads the major leagues with all of FIVE complete games, & nobody has more than TWO shutouts.

AustinTXHorn

I'll give you Wang but the Unit is no longer the dominate force he once was. Moose is in a contract year and not completely healthy.

Kinda iffy if you ask me.

If I were a Yankee fan, i'd be praying for the Angels to miss the playoffs as they are the only team in the AL that can match-up and beat them this year.

Poor E-Rod. People don't like him apparently because he's so good looking, makes a lot of money, is bi-racial and plays for the Yankees. Oh wait, Jeter's all of those things and people love him because he's a winner and has 4 rings.

What a primadonna that guy is. E-Rod's to World Series victories what Ann Coulter is to burgers. The Yankees won't win this year and E-rod will be playing in L.A. next season.
