I'm going to Vegas for the first time ever from April 30th to May 5th!

What should I do? What should I see? Any recommendations for transport from airport to hotel?

Are tickets to shows hard to get?

I'm so excited!!!! Woo hoo!!!

Transport from airport to hotel = cab. Unless you roll and the casino will send you a car.

Tickets can be hard to get depending on what you wanna see. I saw the new Cirque du Soleil called Ka last time and it RMmother****ingFO. Also you can't go wrong with Blue Man Group.

If you wanna shop, hit the Forum Shops at Caesar's.

The Bellagio fountains are worth a visit. Dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant looking out at said fountains is a good way for your woman to think you're romantic, if a woman is going.

If you wanna do hip, go to Ghost Bar at the Palms. Also Mix at THE Hotel is cool.

The Stratosphere has a revolving restaurant that's a pretty awesome view at night. (Top of The World)

If you like lobster, Rosewood Grill, across from Monte Carlo is very good, but very expensive. Ask them if you can pick out your lobster and they'll take you to the tanks. You'll see the largets lobsters you've ever seen there. Our waiter told us they have at least one 20 pounder every day. They're flown in each day, so you're not getting bad quality.

The Hard Rock is a lot farther from the strip than it looks on a map, take a cab.

If you just want to kill time, look to the smaller casinos on the strip. You'll find the 1 and 2 dollar blackjack tables there. Wesward Ho and Slots of Fun are usually the cheapest games on the strip.

Ride the roller coaster at New York New York and the rides on top of Stratosphere.

The Rio has a seriously kick butt buffett. Not on the strip, so you'll need a cab to get there.

Check out the concert schedule at Hard Rock.

I'm telling you, dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant at Paris with a view of the strip and the Bellagio Fountains (ask for a strip view when you make the reservation) is a VERY good idea.

Cirque Du Soleil - get tickets now, as they are often sold out way in advance.
I've seen Mystere at Treasure Is. and Zumanity, Mystere was great, Zumanity very good. They say O is prolly the best.

I play blackjack and LOVE to wander into the upper end Baccarat rooms and watch mostly asians betting huge amounts of $$. Mini-bac and roulette are good passive fun too.

Going with the wife? Zumanity is in the New York New York - raciest Cirque du Soleil show they have. Good for a romantic night. Blue Man Group is now at the Venetian, I think - best money I spent in Vegas.

Expect to see a lot of very beautiful people. Also, expect to see more white trash than you have seen at every Oklahoma State Fair you've attended, COMBINED.

Also, plan to spend more than you ever expected. And go ahead and start developing your lies about "breaking about even" for when you get back.

My first time in vegas, I got a cab told him to take me to Rio, I had no idea where it was at. Pulled up to some joint he said have a good time I got out he told doorman put him down for two and drove off. It wasn't rio it was a strip club, he was a bounty hunter.I spent 200.00 bucks in there everyone has a scam in vegas love it.

Here's a short list:

1. Nine Fine Irishmen--NY,NY. Get the fish and chips, it compares with nothing you have ever had. Get a Smithwick's. There are only about a dozen places in the US where you can get one, and you happen to be staying at one of them.

2. Zumanity--NY,NY. We sat upstairs and still had a great view. Cast members made their way up there and entertained. Stunning, romantic and fun.

3. ESPNZone--NY,NY. Pass on the recliners, request one of the horshoe shaped booths behind them. Flat touch-screens at every one of these booths that will navigate among anything you see on the wall of TV's. A must see.

I'll stop there. Did I mention that you picked a good place to stay? Ride the coaster too.

first, Friday and Saturday nights are the funnest in Vegas since that's when the folks who just spend the weekend are in town and the vibe is most intense -- but the upside is it is less crowded from M-F when you're going.

IMHO, you are staying two days too long. I'm always ready to GTFO after 72 hours in Vegas.

I agree. As a really smart dude said one time:

it is a bit longer, but it takes away the pressure of trying to cram too much into a day for a guy who's not been there.

72 hrs is tops for us now too.

you can go online and see what shows are available and purchase tickets now. The best places we ate were this buffet at the Bellagio...and then these cinnamon rolls at this small cafe inside Paris Paris.

Have fun!

True, last time we were out there we stayed at Ceasars with the BIL and SIL.
The BIL and I spent 3 days on the golf course mostly while the wives lounged around Ceasars pool and shopped. We didn't lose much money and played some really nice golf courses, enjoyed the buffets and shows.

sorry...

Blue Man group is cool for AARP card carriers and 11 year olds, their act is the same tired one you have always seen on TV.

Zumanity is your best buy. And Le Reve or O should have been your next best buy.

But since you will be in the Venetian, if you like asian cuisine, make reservations at Tao, its a restaurant and the hottest nightclub in vegas right now.

BTW, the Zumanity cast pulls people from the first row for the last scene, and you REALLY want that to happen! :D  :D

I went to Tao a few weeks ago. IMHO opinion it's as overrated as the one I went to in Manhattan.

I haven't seen Zumanity, but La Reve was OK. Have you seen KA? It RMMFFO.

yes, KA was good, but the music was AWESOME.

And when did you see Le Reve? They changed a lot of it in January due to some feedback.

Tao isn't as over-rated as Nobu... ugh.

I saw KA last fall and was really impressed. I saw La Reve I think in January (it was late January in fact).

The only Nobu I've ever been to was on South Beach and it was awesome. But I've heard a lot of people think it's overrated. Maybe I was drunk? :O

I thought the atmosphere was nice at Tao but that the food was incredibly average.

Have you tried Mix?

Mixx does rock... espresso martinis overlooking the Strip.. and.. the Men's bathroom.... take a wizz while looking out from 64 floors up.

If you can get in The Foundation Room at the House of Blues.. it is also 64 floors up at the Mandalay Bay... good people watching.

Also... go strolling through Wynn's. There is an Italian seafood restauarant overlooking the pool and waterfall. Wynn's is an experience.

for the wife... the spa at Mandalay Bay is the bomb. Make reservations now if you can.

The Forum Shops at Caesers.. remember.. THEY WILL NEGOTIATE prices. haggle with them.

The sushi restaurant in the MGM (which is across the street from New York New York) is to die for... try the kobe beef there... supposedly, is one of the few places in the US that serves authentic kobe.

as for the sex clubs there.. well.... since this is a family forum.... ;)
