is there any effective methods for getting rid of these things or keeping them away?

I don't know of any way to keep them away. I always have a few cans of that wasp killer around though.

yeah, i keep it on hand. I've heard moth balls in the atic will keep them outta there as well,

Those bastiges give me THE WILLIES, big time. I had 6 or so of them sting me pretty much simultaneously, when I was 4 or 5 yrs. old, and I hate the SOB's

Once when we were camping, there was a wasp on the table. I took my hat off and hit the little guy - real good. Only problem was that my sunglasses were on the bill of my hat. I loved those sunglasses.

whack the nest with a broom and run like hell. now, to be fair, this method resulted in quite a bit of stinging.

gasoline on the nest works wonders if you can hit the nest. if you miss you are scee-roo-ed!

Usually exposing them to minorities works well. :D

Put a few half empty cans of soda out, wait half an hour, then get a shot gun and shoot the cans point blank.

when I worked @ the lake, we used a homemade flamethrower, it seemed to work well

I always have cans of wasp killer around. Spray their nest really well and then be prepared to spray any wasps that manage to survive that. Then knock the nest down. That seems to take care of them till the next year.

The wasp killer works, at first I was worried but the wasps usually die within a few seconds of being hit....they never make it anywhere near me alive.

I used a big steel JUMBO dust pan on one in my garage today...

I served him up like Andre Agassi serving up an ace at Wimbledon...

There's three main unhuman things I don't like in this world...Wasps, Snakes and Spiders. I hate'em all.

the only thing ive ever been stung by that compares to a wasp sting is those fire ant bites, er stings, man those sumbiches hurt for days. i's mowin the yard one day and my damn foot started burning, i looked down and there was 5-6 on my foot. been stung twice by wasps...thats enuff for me.
i always just have wasp spray, it works good for us.

Been stung by sweat bees, fire ants, and scorpians.

Of the three, scorpian was the worst to the best of my recollection.

I have had a black widow actually walk on my arm briefly.

I was repairing a toilet on a separate occasion and was kneeling with my chest on the lid while reaching around with a wrench only to notice a black widow within inches of my face living on the bottom of the tank. I'm glad it never got those people and even more glad it didn't get me.

When I was 6, I attacked a wasps nest with my souvenier baseball bat from a Braves game. Wasn't a good idea. They were ****ed.

I gota a big WILLIE and the waspages didnt cause it :)

Mix ya some pest poison with some Dawn dish soap and spray thier lil red azzes ! ywia

i just took the hose to the nests, or a water gun a few times

i usually leave bees alone. only been stung once, i was walking barefoot and stepped on it, it wasn't fun

I still get chills when I think about it...And, believe what they say about Scorpion Fish!! If one or more of their spines sticks you, it's a BRUTAL burning sensation that stays with you about 12 hours before it even BEGINS to subside! OUCH!:mad:

A wasp stung me on my nose when I was a kid. I learned it is not a good idea to antagonize them by knocking down a nest.

That said, my dad taught me the gasoline trick. Toss some gas on a wasp nest and it is instant death. Crude, but effective!
