Oklahoma punter Cody Freeby has been suspended and may not be allowed to rejoin the team.

After Friday’s practice on Owen Field, OU coach Bob Stoops said Freeby is currently suspended for “academic and team reasons.”

OU’s starting punter last season (averaging 42.3 yards per punt), who would be a junior next season, did not participate in last Saturday’s scrimmage and hasn’t been seen during this week’s practice sessions.

“Until he puts himself in better position with the team, he’ll stay suspended,” Stoops said. “Or he’ll be dismissed.”

I'm sorry to hear that. But if our offense performs as well as a lot of folks think it will, the team isn't gonna need a punter.

Jerry Tubbs was playing in an all-star game after the 56 season. He played center for OU and was asked to be the longsnapper in the game. He told them he wasn't sure if he could. The coaches were surprised and asked him why an All-American from the 2-time defending national champions couldn't handle a long-snapping assignment.

Tubbs replied, "At Oklahoma, we don't have to punt."

That's how feel about this issue. ;)

He's a punter; aren't they always a little off center anyway? Now i would have a problem if AD partied and boozed too much, but not a freakin' punter. :eek:

Boys will be boys, but I am hearing about more and more alcohol issues in the last two years. The real question: Has the level of alcohol use/abuse on the team stayed the same over the years and we are just hearing about it more with the increased use of the internet, OR is the level of alcohol use/abuse rising?
I trust Bob is already on top of this. But I am concerned.
