This is a great early commit. I hope it has an immediate domino effect in state.

SOONER! This is the kind of kid we want. Wanted to be a Sooner all his life. Hopefully the next Teddy Lehman. That's who he is compared to.

He looks like a real stud LB, and they list him pretty fast (4.6). I hope he sticks with us to signing day. It sure is a long way off.

He said in the DO today that he wants to be a Sooner and the Mike Reed commit really forced him to go ahead and commit because OU is only looking to take a couple of LB's in this upcoming class.....

Yeah, I watched him play baseball last night, I hadn't seen him in a few weeks, I think he had been out of town or what not. Anyways, he just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Like it looks almost by the week he is growing. On a particular play where they walked him to 1st, the next two pitches he stole 2nd and third, and probably wouldn't have even had to slide, he looks really big and fast out there, and hes only a junior is what is scary. I am pretty excited about getting to see a kid I hang out with play for the Sooners, hope he does as well as everyone expects, and what he is capable of.

Great article and pics of Box in the new Spectator! Looks like a linebacker. Hook 'em I have seen him play baseball a few times this spring and he does look bigger and faster. He steals bases effortlessly. He has always been fast but his first step seems much faster this year. The opposing teams know he is going to steal but usually haven't come close to throwing him out, albeit at the 6A level.

I don't foresee us being weak at LB for a LONG time.

A look at the top-rated prospects
Jamie Newberg / Scout.com

Austin Box, 6-3 and 215 pounds, is a safety prospect who has committed to Oklahoma. He has to be considered one of the most aggressive and physical defensive prospects in the nation. Box absolutely will knock you into tomorrow. He is a big time hitter that goes for the knockout punch. He shows super range with fantastic speed and anticipation. This kid just has great instincts. He supports the run like a linebacker. In the passing game he is equally impressive, displaying good coverage skills, a knowledge for what the offense is about to do, and a great break on the ball. It also helps that he plays the quarterback position to for his high school team. At the next level he could play either safety position or even develop into an outside linebacker. Truth be told, he has enough speed to play safety for the Sooners and this is the type of player that you want to be roaming the middle for your defense.

Box and his Enid summer baseball team came to Claremore on Tuesday night. Needless to say....he looked like a man among boys out there, physically. You can tell that he is already on Smitty's workout plan. Can't wait to see him roaming on our defensive side of the ball!!!!
