Thursday night, according to the Lips' website:

The Flaming Lips will be performing live on The Tonight Show this Thursday night the 30th. And then watch for them on MTV2's Subterrranean on Saturday night, April 2nd, which starts at midnight on both coasts.
If you haven't heard the new album (actually not released in stores until next week), you can stream it at www.flaminglips.com (http://www.flaminglips.com) . Click on "Audio" and then play it from the audio player in the browser. Be sure to select "broadband" if you have it. If you do the preorder on iTunes, you get several bonus tracks, and can download the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song immediately.

Just bought my tickets for the July 29 show at Red Rocks in Denver with Ween... ...AWW, YEAH...

The Oklahoma Gazette has an interview with Steven Drozd in the March 29 issue.

Then on March 30th, Norman's Guestroom Records (http://www.myspace.com/guestroomrecords) is having an all-day At War With The Mystics listening party:

Hey gang – We're very excited to announce that we've obtained a limited edition copy of the new FLAMING LIPS album At War With the Mystics due out next Tuesday April 4th.

We're planning on listening to it ALL DAY this Thursday 3/30 here at Guestroom Records (125 E. Main St. in Norman). Oh yeah, the copy we've got has an added bonus; it's all mashed up with your favorite Godsmack songs!!! Damn I wish that was true. Actually, there's commentary on each and every track so that you'll get inside the heads of the Lips to find out what they were thinking about when they wrote the songs. Pretty awesome! I had to stop myself from listening to the whole thing to keep the suspense up. I can tell you there's a little bit about Gwen Stefani masturbating....

Anyway, come on over sometime on Thursday and listen to this thing with us. We've got a fancy soda machine with not 1 but 2 different mystery buttons on it. Hang out in here and listen to At War with the Mystics in it's entirety. You're not going to find our super duper version with commentary on anywhere else, so come check it out in here.

thanks and see you on Thursday. We'll be open from 11-9 so drop by anytime.

CORRECTION!!

I kept wondering why my DVR was showing Alanis Morrissette as the musical act on the Tonight Show. Well, when I checked back to the Lips' website, it now says:

The Flaming Lips will be performing live on The Late Show With David Letterman this Thursday night the 30th. And then watch for them on MTV2's Subterrranean on Saturday night, April 2nd, which starts at midnight on both coasts.
Someone screwed up, but it damn sure wasn't me.

I have never heard them but am looking forward to watching them on Letterman. I'm assuming that they started out or are from Norman?

You never heard the lips?

You are from Oklahoma, right?

I think WAND is really freaky cool.

You can listen to their entire new album, songs from previous discs, view every video they've made, and find out more than you would probably care to know about the band by visiting their site (http://www.flaminglips.com).

They're actually from OKC, but played (and lived for a time) in Norman during the eighties.

Well, they played Norman in the nineties, too.

I'm telling you, go to www.flaminglips.com (http://www.flaminglips.com) and you can listen to every song, in its entirety streamed broadband. I've been listening to the entire album for a couple of days.

Click on the audio tab and select the song. The only downside is that you have to select a new song every time one ends. You can't listen to the whole thing through. Be sure that you have "broadband" selected.

They're also on the cover of the April/May issue of Paste magazine. The magazine includes a sampler CD that has, among other things, a Lips song.

This Thursday night 5/25/06 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Comic Dane Cook; "American Idol'' winner; the Flaming Lips perform.

Awesome. With the American Idol "winner" they should get lots of exposure. All I can say is: please god, don't let them play The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song.

Wow, I never thought it possible, but something has managed to overrule my firey hatred of Jay Leno and his "comedy" stylings: The Lips AND Dane Cook on the same show. :D

BigRedJed
5/25/2006, 11:55 PM
BTW, I think DC must have already been a Lips fan. They all did the perfunctory end-of-show handshakes, but Cook pulled Wayne in and said something to him that just struck me as an "I'm a big fan"-type comment.

Either that or he was like "WTF is up with the megaphone and LED maraca crap?"

bri

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I'm a little shocked they weren't throwing SuFis at each other. :D

BTW, gotta love their new album. It's a bit more political than their previous stuff....which makes it all the better :D
