Hornets coach Byron Scott, a former player at Arizona State, said the school has contacted him to consider his thoughts on who would best fill the Sun Devils’ current men’s basketball coaching vacancy. Scott vouched for OU’s Kelvin Sampson, who has been rumored to be in the running but said he has no interest in leaving the Sooners.
“I’m a big Kelvin Sampson fan,” Scott said. “I think he’s a great coach, I think he’s done great things here. Being an ASU alumnus, I would love to have somebody like that at Arizona State. I think it would bring back the program.”
As for Scott’s interest in returning to his alma mater?
“I’m officially taking my name out,” Scott said. “My name was never in, but I’m making it known that I’m not interested in that job at all.”
