View Full Version : Waht Is The Price Of Houses Where You Live(Per Square Foot)

The reason I'm asking is that I was suprised that in Ada ,at least for new homes(less than 10 years old), houses are about 20% more per square foot than in Amarillo.

In Amarillo it ranges for $65 to $103 dollars per square feet with newer houses(10 years or less and depending on area) being $75 to $103 dollars a square foot. The houses in my neighborhood go for about $87 per foot.

In Ada newer homes are going for about $93 to $115 per square feet.

The housing market in Amarillo has been hurt by over building. There have been about 3000 new houses built in Amarillo over the last 10 years and the popuation has not increased by that much. The market got soft about 3 years ago and housing prices have actually dropped about 2% since 2003.

Ada is growing by leaps and bounds . . . it's a completely different place now than when I was in college at ECU.

The new highway has opened up several spots for new businesses and stuff.

I'd heard that prices around Dallas and the OKC metro were relatively cheap because of the same problem we've had here....over building by contractors. I've had 2 friends who were in other lines of business go into the contracting business because of the housing boom here in Amarillo. I think it's finally starting to cool off.

It's ALL about the neighborhood. For example, in my neighborhood, our houses are all about 25 years old, 1500 to 2000 sq ft (Broken Arrow). They go for about $65-70 a sq ft. A cousion of mine built a house in 2000 in a bad neighborhood, it is worth about $50/sq ft and it's only 4 miles away (only 5 years old mind you). A good friend of mine has a 2200 sq ft house 6 miles the other way (in Tulsa) built in '76...it looks like it should be worth $85 a sq ft, but the neighborhood sales are all for about $60-65 sq/ft. It's all about demand/ where people want to live.

I am going to estimate around $300-375. The problem in my town is that there's nowhere to build so you have to do the tear down thing. And there's a LOT of that going on here.

Here's a small sampling of my town. One of the houses is around the corner from me and I can't believe how much they want.

Taxes are one advantage in Oklahoma. Ada's property taxes are about 1/2 those of Amarillo for comparatively priced homes. For a 2400 square foot home in Amarillo appraised at $85 a square foot taxes are $380 a month or $4560 a year.

It is. She lives off Reno and mustang road, that area has changed a lot since I grew up around there.

When she bought her house (1500 sq foot) it was like 60k, its up around 95k now.

It might be due to the fact she's got a small house (for a 3 bedroom).
