A very small chance of winning, but it's nice to see her get the recognition she deserves.
ATLANTA -- Four finalists named for the 2006 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year, it was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday.
Seimone Augustus, the 2005 Naismith Award recipient, is joined by North Carolina's Ivory Latta, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris and Rutger's Cappie Pondexter as the four finalists for the award.
The finalists were chosen through a vote by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, who narrowed the mid-season list of 30 candidates down to the final four. The Board, which is comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country, based its criteria on player performance this season.
"This talented group of women has already proven they have what it takes to distinguish themselves as Naismith finalists," said Gary Stokan, Atlanta Tipoff Club president. "Their individual honors have set them apart, but it is their commitment to becoming leaders on their teams that is most impressive."
