For those of you that don't listen to the radio and/or live outside of the OKC listening area, an "alt-rock" station here, 94.7 The Buzz (http://www.okcbuzz.com/), is having a local band competition called March Bandness. Some of you may remember me asking for your help last year. Past winners include Falcon Five-O (http://www.falconfive-o.com/)(2003), Sly's Alter Ego (http://www.slysalterego.com/)(2004) & Winter Circle (http://www.wintercircle.com/) (2005).

Listen to the songs and vote for the song you like the most. (They don't sign you up on any junk mail list, if you're worried about that.)

There's two really good songs in this group, three good songs, one song that's just not my bag and two craptacular songs.

The final eight bands are:
Calling Matthew (http://www.myspace.com/callingmatthew), FiveStoriesFalling (http://www.myspace.com/fivestoriesfallingok), Fresh Sunday (http://www.myspace.com/freshsunday), Klipspringer (http://www.myspace.com/klipspringer), Luma (http://www.purevolume.com/luma), North Rock (http://www.purevolume.com/northrock/), Slingshot Method (http://www.myspace.com/slingshotmethod) & Solomonsplendor (http://www.myspace.com/solomonsplendor)

Listen and vote here (http://okcbuzz.com/cc-common/mainheadlines2.html?feed=114798&article=410053).

Tell me who you voted for. I'm interested.

Would it kill you to play a little Foghat every once in a while?

Why do all band names suck now? I miss good names like The Band, and The Who. Now you can take anything and make it into a band name.

I just came up with the best band name ever. Cold Slipper. Oh wait. Fake Nostril. How about Puddlejump? Spanglesneer? Rotten Pillow?

Cavemen doing Calculus...that's one of my "make believe" band names. they f'ing rock and dress up like cavemen and throw math books at the crowd. it's a good show. everyone should go see them.

Voted for Luma. After listening to all of those, Luma, North Rock, and Five Stories Falling seemed like the top three to me. Those were the bands that did something unexpected somewhere in the tune. A few of the others seemed like the band was just doing the same thing over and over behind the singer. The three I mentioned (Luma and North Rock in particular) really had sections that changed what they were doing. That kept my interest a lot better. And it seemed like Luma had a better melody to my ear. So there you go.

Three or four of the other bands really sounded interchangeable to my ear.

I voted for Luma, too.

I just like 'em.

I liked Luma too. That guy has the best voice of the whole thing.

I liked North Rock because it was original. I like Slingshot Method because they're catchy. I like Klipspringer because they're cool guys and fun - and the song is about a freak show act in New York, via Norman. I kinda liked Calling Matthew, but it lacked something.

I really didn't like Solomonsplendor or FiveStoriesFalling. At all.

On second check you're right. I think I was thinking of Fresh Sunday, not FiveStoriesFalling. The links are spaced oddly on that page.

Yeah. I dug Fresh Sunday too.
