I bought a 30 Gig Ipod a few weeks ago. I have purchased two different FM Modulators and neither of them have worked. One was an Itrip the other was a belkin. I could never even get the Belkin to come on.

Has anyone purchased an FM modulator that works well.

The Transdock that plugs directly into your cigarette lighter works really well. Kinda pricey, but also charges your IPod while if transmits.

When it comes to these things, you get what you pay for.

I got my wife one of these (http://www.monstercable.com/computer/productPageComputer.asp?pin=2084) and it works pretty well.

Do the transmitters work well with the hard drive units? I understand that the hard drives interfere with radio signals, which is why they don't come with FM radios built in. The flash drive units come with FM radios as they don't have the same problem. Just curious.

My wife has a 40GB hard drive unit.

An external transmitter shouldn't have too much trouble overcoming whatever interference the player creates.

i haven't had much luck with the FM transmitters, i want to pick up an FM modulator that has a standard audio connector

the modulators actually plug into the antenna socket on the back of your deck, and don't have to go over the air, so they can overpower the local radio stations

I bought about 4 or 5 of those things and returned them all. they all pretty much suck. from what I've read, your best option is audio inputs on your deck (obviously), then a cassette adapter, then the plug in antenna adapter thing like yermom was talking about, then way last is the FM transmitter.

Best Buy wants $200 for the thing that plugs into a ford audio system and lets you control your ipod from your factory radio. while cool, I imagine i could buy a new deck for that much.

I've had an Itrip since 2003 and its work fine. The only problem I've had is getting it to accept a station, but that goes away once you get use to the controls.

After fussing with FM transmitters I bought an interface for my Camry from crutchfield for $120 (best buy is $200 + $60 installation). It came with really detailed installation instructions (with lots of pics) and I installed it MYSELF one morning. It works GREAT. I wouldn't mess with anything else.

It acts as a 6 disc changer, I can use my steering wheel controls and everything. LOVE. IT.

Get the Transpod from Digital Lifestyle Outfitters. It's a hunnerd bucks but it works great. And it charges while you're listening.

With FM transmitters for these things you really do get what you pay for. Unless you're Norm and then YOU GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!

I concur on the the transpod. It works MUCH bettah than the itrip. The monster thing is pretty good, but it doesn't cross the 90 threshold on the dial. Better stereo quality the closer to the center of your FM dial.

I just bought a pair of those SHURE sound isolating earphones. They work great... even when I'm driving and I didn't have to install anything.

If you're gonna spend a hundred bucks on an FM transmitter, just pony up another 20 and get an Ipod Interface. Trust me, it's WORTH IT.

Can you patch your cell phone through those?

I wouldn't want to miss a call while I was jammin' out cruisin' down I-35.

Unless your family has 2 or more cars that you want to rawk out in.

That's the best thing about a clean wireless solution.

wait. nevermind. I see what you're saying.

They're great for walking through the airport and ticking off the drivers of those "cart coming through" guys. But, you honestly can't hear them.

I've got a pair at work. My boss gets mad because he can't just shout over the cube tops at me to get my attention.

$88 is a small price to stick it to the man.

which is why I kept an FM transmitter (Monster one I think). I can use it in other cars, but when I'm in mine (most of the time anyway) I have a GREAT sound with the interface.

The cool thing is, other people that are alongside my car can play what I'm playing.
