Scallops wrapped in bacon are good.

Is it because the bacon hides the taste of the scallop?

Oh yeah. At Red Lobster they put them in this thing that looks like a fajita platter with some deviled crab and shrimp, and they smother the whole thing in melted cheddar.

Greatness.

Not sure I have had them. I don't like much seafood so probably not.

If you don't like seafood, you definitely wouldn't like them.

I can eat oysters on the half shell but I don't care for scallops much.

When you get that bacteria thing that eats your liver and kills you, we'll be sad. We promise.

No, it's more like the two flavors go great together. I could eat scallops without bacon, but they're really good with bacon.

I like some seafood. But I am picky. I bet I wouldn't like them either

Am I babbling? Do you wonder why?

It's because I don't like the nubmers 1300-1399 and this is post 1400 so I have been waiting for this all day...just ready to do it already and get it over with.

Glad that is over. phew. ;)

They are tasty mollusks. Succulent and vaguely sweet-tasting (like me), but be warned, speaking as a d00d who has fished them, lots of restaurants put "scallops" on the menu, and substitute ersatz "scallops" which are ray flesh which has been cut into discs with cookie cutters. Seriously. Bottom line, if they are too round, turn 'em down.

Authentic scallops are not perfectly round and if eaten steamed are immediately indentifiable from cooky-cuttered ray wings. problem is, when you bread them and fry them, most non-seafood savvy people don't know the diff.

Smothering with melted cheddar makes anything taste good.

Try eating an oyster fresh out of the water. Talk about salty. I used to pick them out on Hood Canal on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Also used to dig Geoducks (I can't remember if that is how you spell it).

Those are delicious. Great clam chowder gets made with them. Of course, they look like a giant uncircumcised wiener with a big shell attached. Somebody post a pic. Pretty funny looking.

If you are eating them on the half shell you probably don't like them. Saute them with some butter garlic and basil and they are great eats.

Homey is right about the ersatz scallops made from ray. Very common to get them. I like the ray type as well, but NOTHING like freshly caught scallops.

about sixty primitive tiny bright blue eyes eyes reside in rows along a scallop’s mantle edge to detect motion, light and dark. A scallop can easily regrow any lost or injured eyes.
Cool.

Yeah, that's the correct spelling, pronounced gooeyducks I believe. We used to call them by their more affectionate slang name when I lived up there though.

I love sauteed scallops when they are done right. Fried ones are ok, but would much rather have them sauteed or even grilled over pasta with lots of veggies & a nice garlic sauce

Apparently, Evergreen State College's team mascot is the geoduck. Here's their fight song...

The Geoduck Fight Song

(words and music by Malcolm Stilson, 1971)
Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
let's go.
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.
Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
is low
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

I should add that to eat them, you break open the shell and dig out the gut ball. Then slice off the "neck" (insert Lorena Bobbit joke) of the clam and then slice along the shell to remove the tenderloins of clam meat. You then blanche the neck in boiling water (insert MJCPR joke) and peel the skin off of it. Then chop up the neck (insert DC joke) into bite size pieces and use it for clam chowder. Saute the tenderloins (insert Chick joke) and enjoy.

If you've ever eaten clam chowder in the Pac NW, then you probably ate these. I suspect that many commercial producers of clam chowder use them too. So odds are, you have eaten them if you have eaten clam chowder. :texan:
