This thread will probably sink like a rock but at least I tried...

Sam Phillips, of Sun Records fame once said that Wolf (aka Chester Burnett), was his greatest discovery and losing him to Chess Records in Chicago was his biggest career disappointment.

Now that's saying something when you consider he also discovered Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash.

Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and The Rolling Stones were not only heavily influenced by him but also covered his songs.
Clapton made an album with him along with Steve Winwood, Ringo Starr, Charley Watts and Bill Wyman.

Jimi Hendrix idolized his lead guitarist - Hubert Sumlin.

If you doesn't know about Howlin' Wolf, you has truly missed out.

Reccommend "Smokestack Lightning", "Spoonfull", "How Many More Years", "Killing Floor" - for starters.

I imagine you've heard of Muddy Waters?
They were big competitors in the Chicago clubs at the time.

I'll take Billy Joe Shaver over Howlin Wolf when it comes to influence.
