Growing up in the 80's and early 90's I did my share of listening to hair metal and rock. Big fan of poison, motley crue, metallica, def lepard, and so on.
brought up at a younger age to things such as meatloaf, toto, alan parson, beatles and so on.
Anyhow, my sister was a big queensryche fan. The two songs I know I love which is jet city woman and silent lucidity.
Anyone know what they have worth buying? Any other good music from them?

Empire is a freakin' sweet CD. I LOVE that album. Operation Mindcrime is generally hailed as their signature CD and biggest accomplishment. I haven't heard it enough to say that exactly, but it is pretty solid. Eyes of a Stranger rawks and I Don't Believe in Love might be my favorite song from them evar. You really can't go wrong with either.

Anything by 'Ryche up through Promised Land RMFO. Hear in the Now Frontier was okay, but not great. When Chris DeGarmo left, they kinda went in the toilet and started to sound like a bad version of Soundgarden. CDG came back, at least for a while, but I don't know what his status is right now, and I don't know if he'll be touring with them.

I look forward to getting Mindcrime II. Another tidbit: the first time I saw Queensryche was on the "Rage for Order" Tour, when they played the LNC and opened up for...

Ratt. Ratt sucked, BTW. I really didn't like their music all that much, but they sounded terrible live. I actually paid to see 'Ryche as an opening band twice, the second one being when they toured with Metallica. That was the first Mindcrime tour but they had to play an abbreviated set due to opening band restrictions. They still kicked *** though. Metallica is another band that sound crappy live, but I do like their studio stuff from the 1980s.

'Ryche's first headlining gig here in OKC was the Building Empires tour. During *that* one, they played Mindcrime all the way through along with just about every other song of theirs that I really liked. It was total greatness.

Queensryche rocked the **** when I saw them open for Metallica. I believe they played Mindcrime all the way through, but I wasn't a fan of theirs until I saw that show. Also, the doobage at the show makes me forget stuff sometimes, so they might not have played the whole thing. They rocked anyway.

Jees,

I cant believe I didnt get in on this thread earlier. I first saw Queensryche when they were on the mindcrime tour, and opened up for Metallica in 88. Awesome show. It began the steady decline of what is now my hearing loss.

I wore out 2 cassette tapes listening to it in my car back in the day. The CD is now scratched all to hell too.

I saw them again in 91 on the Empire tour. They played the entire Mindcrime album. (BTW, Johnny killed Mary, not the priest) Thanks to General admission, and I am a pretty big guy, I actually worked my way up to front row. I think I was 18 at the time, I even shook hands with Geoff Tate. Awesome show!!!!

Wasn't GA as far as I remember. Oklahoma stopped having GA indoor concerts back in the 1980s like most states, after the disaster involving The Who at that show in Cleveland where 11 kids got crushed to death. The Promised Land show in 1993 or 94 was at the Zoo, so that one was GA. Maybe that's where you got to the front?

Don't bother with anything after Empire. it all pretty much sucks. Operation Mindcrime is my favorite album of all time. You pretty much have to listen to it from start to finish to appreciate it. Seeing them play it live will help you appreciate it even more. After playing that whole thing through note by note during the Buiding Empires tour, you'd be surprised Tate could still sing in that octave at the end.

No, this was at definitley at the fairgrounds pavillion. The floor was GA, and the stands were assigned seating. They only let so many people on the floor, Like 500 or 700, the rest in the stands had assigned seating. I have only been to like 3 or four shows but that is the way it was at every show at that facility.

Both the Mindcrime show with Metallica in '88 and the Building Empires tour in '91 were at the Myriad. The Promised Land show was at the Zoo. If they've ever played the Fairgrounds Pavilion, I'm not aware of it. I don't think they've done a concert here in the last 10 years.

I didn't think that the floor was GA for the Metallica show, but it might have been. I had seats on stage left in the bottom row of the middle deck. I was on the floor for Empires and it was definitely not GA.

Weird timing on this thread- I just busted out Mindcrime yesterday for the first time in years. I was on the 5th row of the floor for Metallica/Queensryche at the Myriad in 88- Ryche only played 45 minutes (no Mindcrime entirety until the '91 tour w/ ST, as already pointed out) and it wasn't GA.
