The guy I work with that previously was in Tikrit just got a call from Halliburton and they are offering him $250,000/year plus an extra 65% on top of his salary while he's in Tikrit to go back. He said that the few pieces of an Iraqi police bus he has in his leg and the few pieces of mortar shrapnel in his back aren't worth the 250k - 415k. If I wouldn't have just started this job I'd do it, probably. If I survived I'd have enough to buy a bar on campus corner and if I died I'd never have to work again but my dog would miss me.

Important questions:

How long is the gig?

How often would you get to come home?

Under military or "other" supervision?

How much of your income would be tax-free?

What survivor benefits are available to your family if you get greased.

Where, and under what conditions would you be billeted?

Would go have to travel around via surface transportation or would you live and work within a fortified compound?

Would you actually be in Iraq, or in an adjacent country?

i would do it, but that is just me. 1 year is a long time but that is a lot of scratch to provide for your family.

my main question was how much travel in and around iraq is required....i'm waiting on an answer back from the guy

I've got an artist buddy who was working as a contractor last year when that bomber hit the US mess tent. he was there on that particular base.
he came home for a bit but is back over there now. he says its a lot better than a year ago.

What an incredible coincidence!!!!

I got a call early this afternoon from a lady. She said her husband was contemplating a job offer... IN IRAQ !

She wanted to know if he accepts the job, how much of his expected pay I could obtain pre-emptively to pay for temporary alimony and child support.

Then, she asked if he does go, could she then empty out the savings accounts before he goes.

I think the first $85k is not taxed if you are there for appx 335-340 days of the 365. I'm not sure on the exact number of days.

The cost of burial is low there.

BWT, with a cartoon for an avatar you'd be a sitting duck.

Numba.one thing that would keep me from driving a truck over there:

I might do it if I could retire upon return, or at least buy a massive house, but I don't think my wife would go for it. In fact, she just said no.
