did anyone else catch Big Love after the Sopranos last night?

It was ok, it convinced me that I don't want more than one wife.

I am interested, keep me watching next week.

I watched a documentary on A&E last week, and I still don't get the "benefits" of the multiple wives thing. Unless they're really hot, really rich, or like to make it a group event, I would think one is enough.

We find it strangely unsettling that a marriage between three wives and one d00d would involve feelings of jealousy and rage when hubby is "unfaithful" to a wife on "her night" by skronking a different wife within that designated 24 hour period. Seems like if you're in a dealio like that there wouldn't be call for that sort of emotional response. sheesh.

We'll keep watching, nothing else on worth a crap at 9:00 on a Sunday night.

well, as it currently looks... once one gets kinda old, or can't have kids you just add another ;)

it's like having a mistress that does housework...

From the accounting scene last night, it wouldn't surprise me if Roman gets a bigger taste of his family's earnings than Tony.

That was some list.

Big Love didn't feel "true" to me -- and most of the interviews & such with real polygamists have shown a very different reality. Specifically, one in which the wives aren't going out of their way to get laid, and where if there's any discussion of who gets the schlong for the evening, the discussion is based around which of the wives is looking to get preggers.

Remember, we're talking about people who are having multiple wives because their flavor of Christian fundamentalism says it's okay to do so -- and fundies don't do foreplay.

In any sexual relationship where there's a pre-supposition that the sole purpose is procreation, you can bet your shiny white butt that the chick involved isn't going to get a whole lot of pleasure -- because pleasure isn't the purpose. The fact that the dude ends up satisfied is (basically) a happy accident of nature for the fella.

Fundie = no need for foreplay, condemnation of any sort of sodomy (no oral sex for anyone, IOW) and no such thing as coitus being too brief.

Portraying the wives as a bunch of horny, sex-starved nymphos is, well, silly. I also don't buy how separate they keep their households -- the main point to polygamy is that it's an easier way to raise large families, and you defeat the purpose by maintaining separate larders, buildings, etc.

Dude would've just bought one really huge house, not three adjacent homes.

I'm still watching, of course -- I mean, it *is* HBO :D

i think that is some of the idea of this show though, they are broken off from the "fundies" at the compound. they are kinda new age polygamists.

also the "oral is moral" thing i have heard attributed to Mormons a lot in the past

Just finished Episode Three. I am digging the heck out of this show. The politics and power struggles between the wives are priceless. It took me a few episodes before I warmed up to Six Feet Under, I am thinking its gonna be like that.

I wonder if HBO sort of accidentally-on-purpose put next week's episode on on demand so that more people would watch and start to get hooked. That's kind of a big screw up if they didn't.

So did the prophets young wife steal the Ipod?

I think she stole it. They wouldn't have included the scene if it was a gift. gaw. BTW, how is she going to keep it charged? Prayer?

I also think Nicki was blowing her dad The Prophet (or about to) before Paxton busted them.

I also agree Margene will end up doing her "son" she was playing footsy with. She's a hawt little mink.
