.....I knew this guy but I didn't know he was a "true" hero......He never mentioned any of this...

Military Honors were conducted by a US Army Honor Guard from Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He died on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence. Mr. Clark was born on April 29, 1920 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Paul V. & Anna Pettit Clark. He had been a resident of Lawrence since 1955. He was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, IA and later attended Rockhurst College and the University of Kansas City Law School in Kansas City, MO. He served in the US Army during WWII landing on Utah beach on D-Day and remained in combat with the 90th Division, General George Patton's "Tough Hombres", in major Allied offensives to include the Falaise Gap, the Battle of the Bulge, the siege of Metz and the liberation of Czechoslovakia. Captain Clark was a highly decorated Army officer and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Gold Star and Silver Star. A street is named in his honor in the city of Periers, France commemorating his leadership in its liberation. He was recalled to active service during the Korean War and served until 1953. Mr. Clark was a longtime automobile dealer in Lawrence. In 1955, he founded Jim Clark Motors when he purchased Ransdell Motors & Buddy Gallagher Motors. He also owned car dealerships in Topeka, Kansas City, Salina, and St. Joseph, Mo. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Lawrence; past president of the Kansas Motor Car Dealers Association; Convention Director of the National Automobile Dealers Association; charter member and past president of the Lawrence Cosmopolitan Club; president of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce; recipient of Baker University's Businessman of the Year Award; member of the Lawrence Kiwanis Club; lifetime member of Dorsey Liberty Post #14 Veteran of Foreign Wars; member of the Masonic Lodge; and served for years on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Lawrence. He married Sara Curts on June 14, 1941 in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death on November 15, 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Sally Johnson of Lawrence, Judy Walburn of Lawrence, a son, Jim Clark of Chapman, KS, a brother, Paul Clark of Topeka, KS, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great granddaughter. The family suggests memorials in his name to the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Foundation and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. I never met him , He sounds like he was a great person . I signed the guest book
Oh and the "gold star " was givin to mothers who lost sons .
