sometimes is the succ.

I went home this morning after working my first 6p-6a for the month. Obviously I didn't sleep in yesterday cuz it was my first night. anyhow, I get home this morning around 6:30 and eat a little something and was out by 7 am.
well, I wake up at 10:00 cuz the bladder is giving me fits. I go take care of that problem and my wife tells me that my sons babysitter needs me to watch him from noon-2. well right then I got a little moody and couldn't sleep anymore the rest of the day. Right now I am very tired. Almost dillusional.

I'm glad I only have 4 at the most that I ever work in a row.
I generally struggle through the first two and coast through the last two.
dude, pull over and rest a bit. you're gonna get killed or kill someone.
I've fallen asleep at the wheel at 4:00 in the afternoon north of Bartlesville on hwy-75 and went through the median and into the other set of lanes.

OU-HSV

Well martin, we got told tonight we're gonna trip out and try one more time with a new bit. The "old" bit has only been used three days. The Company Man (boss) told us that they were going to call the well since we're not drilling for shiite, but the big boss wanted to get all the hole made we could. So...now we're coming out to make another 200 or so feet...or until the new bit craps out.

They've got about 20 stands (3 pipes of 30ft each) out and they're stuck.

Joy.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:05 AM
so how much longer will you be there then? sorry I was away. Our gas customer just went offline and I got busy for a bit.

What is it exactly that you do???

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:19 AM
plant operations.
I've done Anhydrous, H2S, and now Natural gas.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:21 AM
oh okay....i see....making good money??

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:23 AM

No, you need mine. ;)

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:26 AM
apply.
its not bad. 7 daylights and 7 nights per month. 12 hour shifts.
One week off solid in that month. Been that way at all three plants.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:27 AM
yeah SB68 is the one making the big bucks while the boom is going. I know guys bringing home 3500 every couple weeks.

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:28 AM
I find natural gas & martin provides it for you.

SoonerBorn68

pffft. The hell you say. ;)

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:29 AM
used to be, you'd find oil and send it to the refinery who would in turn strip the sour gas from it and send it to me for processing of the H2S.
Before then. you'd find the gas that would go to the gas plant that would then supply it to me to make anhydrous.

Anyway you look at it SB68 you are the start for every job I've ever had.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:30 AM
I mean you gotta have a degree right? Those hours arent bad thats about what i am working now..

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:30 AM
oh, was that a low # for you sb68?
sorry if i insulted you :D

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:32 AM
The only problem with my job is what is happening now...and you're powerless to do anything about it.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:32 AM
Not for my job you don't. You can only advance so far though w/o one.
engineers think they know it all but w/o operation experience nothing they come up with will work. But chris. all the companies i've been with will send you to college so long as your degree is something in that field.

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:34 AM
Nah, martin I "know" guys that make that kind of money. The Directional hand let it slip what his day rate is...$900

Do the math: We've been here 27 days.

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:36 AM
In my line of work about 1/3 of the guys have degrees. I don't. The company use to hire guys with oilfield experience & found out they didn't know a lick on how to use a computer...and couldn't be trained to.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:37 AM
good golly, thats a high tax bracket.

chris, my recommendation to you is continue what you are doing and get an education. I have a good workin' mans job but nothing can substitute a degree. IMO.
But I'll tell you this much. My brother in law makes 32.00 per hour doing the same thing I do basically in Borger, tx.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:38 AM
Sooooo as far as degrees go...what should i study?

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:40 AM
yeah, i'm sure the old school oil hands don't wanna learn either. they already know everything and have already done it. :D

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:40 AM
I agree. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't have partied my way out of college. It took me about 20 years finally land a job I really like & where the pay's good. A college degree will at least let you go home at night & have weekends off.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:41 AM
if i was gonna give advice chris. Do a industrial safety type degree.
those jobs are everywhere.
where are you from originally?

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:42 AM
Mustang, OK

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:42 AM
Sooooo as far as degrees go...what should i study?

Depends on your interests. I wouldn't want to go to work every day & hating it.

I use to love cars...mustangs in particular. I got a job at a Ford dealership selling parts...14 years of parts. Now I hate cars. Only the mustangs spark an interest, but not nearly like it use to.

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:44 AM

yeah our "safety" guy's got it cushy.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:44 AM
hmm, do you wanna come back to this area or what?
thing about oklahoma is there aren't a great # of facilities in Oklahoma, Tulsa has some. ponca, enid, woodward, ardmore. but they just aren't abundant. I'm not one to give out advice for your future but stay in school or be a barber. people will always need a haircut...

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:46 AM
my next move will be to the safety department. I would have been there already but guess what. No degree.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:46 AM
I dunno if a wanna come back or not....I love it in OK...thers no place like it...but NC is real nice too....I am taking classes now online for general studies hoping to have a little something for when i get out...

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:47 AM
my next move will be to the safety department. I would have been there already but guess what. No degree.

So, experience doesn't factor in?

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:48 AM
oh heck, North Carolina.
Let me ask you this, does what you do know have anything to do with electrical and instrumentation?

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:49 AM
yeah it does SB68. but the company I was at before wanted a degreed person. Where I am at now I can get into that area w/o one.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:51 AM
oh heck, North Carolina.
Let me ask you this, does what you do know have anything to do with electrical and instrumentation?

I use meteorology electric instruments...dunno if that qualifies

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:51 AM
i'm sending you a pm chris.

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 03:52 AM
Chris, what is you declared degree now?

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:55 AM
BS in Gen Studies

oumartin
3/11/2006, 03:56 AM
Gen studies? like science?
we're probably the wrong guys to talk to then.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 03:59 AM
well its just for the basics...ill prolly change after i get an associates...Im just not sure what i wanna do yet...those pics look cool as hell...im gonna have to check into that stuff

oumartin
3/11/2006, 04:01 AM
if you decide on this type work. do safety or instrumentation and electronics.
alot more security.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 04:02 AM
right on i appreciate the help guys! id spek ya but i gotta spread some rep around first....dont ya hate that?

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 04:03 AM
Be a geologist. He's sittin' at home right now calling the shots out here. He just reads the data we send him & never has to come out to location.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 04:04 AM
what, a rock nerd?
probably gettin' rich while you are out at night working too.

chriscappel
3/11/2006, 04:05 AM
i thought about that too but i hear there are not many jobs out there for it....i dont wanna waste 4 yrs of college just to get out and work at Pizza Hut (again!)

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 04:08 AM
what, a rock nerd?
probably gettin' rich while you are out at night working too.

Every geologist I've heard of has got a second gig, usually some pyramid scheme he want to talk to you about.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 04:08 AM
dude, I love pizza hut. just can't raise a family on it.

your welcome and I'll give you any info I can. but there are alot better people out there for jobs than me. but I like it and I make a good livin.
I've only changed jobs to get my family closer to home. otherwise I wouldn't have changed jobs 3 times in my lifetime.

oumartin
3/11/2006, 04:09 AM
oh yeah. so he sells Acme huh.

Al Gore
3/11/2006, 11:18 AM
plant operations.
I've done Anhydrous, H2S, and now Natural gas.Who is doing your pipeline and pump station maintenance?

Al Gore
3/11/2006, 11:24 AM
In my line of work about 1/3 of the guys have degrees. I don't. The company use to hire guys with oilfield experience & found out they didn't know a lick on how to use a computer...and couldn't be trained to.Yep....the same reason I had to hire younger field engineers for the older Superintendents....

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 11:27 AM
What the hell am I still doing up?!

Al Gore
3/11/2006, 11:29 AM
Yeah....really.....why are you still up?????

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 11:35 AM
Heh, we had to trip out last night & change out our tool when they changed out the bit. The first one we used got clogged so we had to make up a second one. We got finished about 20 minutes ago.

...and this will be the last trip...YAY! Next time we trip out, we're done & I'm goin' home!

SoonerBorn68
3/11/2006, 11:37 AM
I work a 12 hour shift, but on call 24/7
