NEW YORK -- Villanova guard Allan Ray was taken to a hospital after injuring his right eye early in the second half of the Wildcats' Big East tournament game against Pittsburgh on Friday night.

A Villanova spokesperson confirmed that Ray was taken to the hospital, though the severity of the injury wasn't immediately known.

Ray, the No. 2 Wildcats' second-leading scorer, was hit in the face by Pittsburgh guard Carl Krauser when they scrambled for a loose ball in front of the Villanova bench 32 seconds into the second half. Pitt was leading 32-21 at the time. Ray was helped off the court to the locker room with his eye covered.

The 6-foot-2 senior was a first-team All Big East selection and averaged 19.4 points and 4.0 rebounds this season. He had four points against Pitt before leaving the game.

The reason his eye was covered as they left the court was because it came out of socket. Hopefully his career is not over but he might not ever be able to see out of that eye again.

edit: early reports on espn say it doesn't look like it will be a severe injury :)

Espn saying that he was released from the hospital, and that his vision is good.

That's good to hear. I think this type of injury is more common than we realize... just not televised that often. It's a wonder we don't see it more often in sports.

I'll bet he got a killer 'scrip for tomorrow.

When I saw it happen I didn't think he would play again but I guess it wasn't as bad as it looked.

Yeah, I know, I saw it. I never thought to myself,"His career is probably over. He was a great player too." That wasn't his knee coming out of his eye socket.
