Hope she likes doing sports in a remote small market, because there is no way she wasn't summarily canned.

You know, I've been a radio celebrity for nearly 100 hours of airtime.

One of the very first things they told me... was to watch my language. This was STRONGLY counseled to me, and in the plainest of terms.

When we come back from a song, Dave or Nina will say, "Mic's are hot" and from that moment, if you're not speaking to the audience, you know to STFU.

So, unless Cox Radio is just light-years more sophisticated than ESPN, she's done.

yeah, I felt bad when she had to be rescued by the other guy. She obviously wasn't ready to start...

WOW...FUNNY BACKSTORY:

The guy on the left, Robert Flores, was canned from a local CBS station here in Austin about a year ago for the same thing.

He was doing a late night in-studio spot and something fell loud and hard in the background, scaring the hell out of him. He muttered 'Fawk!' or something.

He was let go and some folks around here thought it was unfair, since it was a studio tech that loaded the expletive spot during the morning news.

I don't think this woman's 'it was an accident' claim is as strong as Robert's, but I'm sure he could relate...lol

Found Robert's story:

Robert Flores is Austin's own poster child for the indecency crackdown. Last August he was working as the lead sports anchor for the local CBS affiliate, KEYE-TV, when he made what seemed like a fairly minor boo-boo. He was recording his sports segment for the next morning's newscast when someone dropped a piece of equipment in the studio. He yelled "Cut!," then muttered, "****." He re-recorded the segment and didn't give it a second thought. The next morning, Flores' recorded sports segment aired without incident.

But on Thursday – two days later – a production staffer on the morning show inserted the wrong tape into the playback machine. Flores' blooper from Monday night's recording session aired, complete with f-bomb, at 5:45am. That morning, when he returned from covering UT football practice, Flores was called into the general manager's office and fired.

"I felt bad for Robert Flores," said KEYE general manager Mike Reed, who had only been with the station for three days. "I hated to see him put in that position. But zero tolerance means zero tolerance."

They never heard of a 7 second delay?

Oldnslo
3/10/2006, 06:41 PM
Delay isn't the norm. Usually, there's no need for it.

Is there any harm in having it on all the time? After all, **** happens.

Oops. :O

Isn't cable a little more forgiving than broadcast stations?

I don't blame her. It looked like **** was hitting the fan in the control room. I might just throwing around expletives, too.

This is why I ALWAYS remember to turn my mic off when I'm not on-air just in case in gets punched hot accidentally, which has been known to happen.

I hope the tech that loaded the wrong tape was fired along with Flores. If not, that is HORRIBLY wrong and unfair. I understand the zero tolerance policy, so the station really didn't have choice. But, that screw-up recording should have been trashed immediately.

Not at the moment.

Seriously, no. I'm not "on-air." Although, I have been mic'd up on overnight shifts to do radar voice-overs to gain some experience in case I decide to pursue a TV job.
