In another thread, someone mentioned that their relative used to say, “You get what you pay for.” This got me thinking that there are a million good phrases like this one. Please share some of your (PG rated or so) sayings.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Dress for the job you want not the job you have

The best time to look for a job is when you have one

Lord loves a workin' man… don't trust whitey… see a doctor and get rid of it.

What additions do you have?

murphys law and all of its corrolaries and addenda...they all pretty much apply to my day to day work.

if something can go wrong, it will.

the cost of the part that causes catastrophic failure is inversely proportional to the cost of the entire apparatus.

the part which causes catastrophic failure is always the one you believe to be least likely to fail.

I can't think of more cause it's so late, but I'll be damned if all this isn't true. Come to think of it, its a damn miracle we get any data at all in our experiment with as many things that can possibly go wrong. seriously, the number of things we have that can grind the whole lab to a halt is somewhere up in the millions.

When buying a horse, you look into its mouth to discern its age (ask Dean for details). But if the horse is a gift, it's offensive to examine it as if you are buying it. In short, accept a gift gracefully without looking for its faults.

funny...I always got a different impression from that saying. I always thought it meant that "looking it in the mouth" referred to thinking about how much it would cost to feed it. In general stating that it was rude to look at a gift in terms of its cost to you.
