"After announcing that Mike Patrick will replace Ron Franklin as the play-by-play voice on ESPN's Saturday night prime-time football game this fall, ESPN says only that Franklin will have a "high-profile role" in ESPN's reconfigured lineup."

He might be a horn fan, but he's pretty darn good on the play-by-play. Don't like this even though I do like Patrick.

I have always associated Ron Franklin with the Saturday night games on ESPN. I really enjoyed Franklin, and it will just not be the same on Sat nights without him.

I have always liked Ron Franklin. He does a great job. Patrick is good, but with him everything is a superlative, and that wears thin after awhile.

Actually, Ron's an Ole Miss guy. He moved to Austin to be near his son. He is really the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet...

If y'all wanna get technical he was at KJRH channel 2 here in Tulsa wwwwwaaaaayyyyyy back in the day. So he's really a Sooner homer.

edit: It was actually KVOO-TV when he was there. Wasn't even KJRH yet.

Believe it or not, Mike Patrick used to be the voice of Saturday night college football games on ESPN. It was back in '86, and his color analyst was none other than Pat McInally, the former Cincinnati Bengals punter that attended Harvard. Patrick left college football the following year when ESPN acquired the NFL package.

Hasn't been mentioned, but apparently Patrick's partner in the new ESPN Saturday night booth is Todd Blackledge, late of CBS. CBS then hired Gary Danielson to be Verne Lundquist's partner in the SEC package.

There was also an interesting item in this weekend's USA Today TV column about ABC considering the idea of airing a weekly Saturday night college game. The proposed announcing team would be Brent Musburger, Dan Fouts and Paul Maguire.

A Saturday night ABC game would be outstanding, especially if they ditch their 11 AM Big 12 time slot.
