I am torn. On one hand, I want Bonds out of baseball and his records erased. On the other hand, I like McGwire and Sosa and don't wish the same to them, although they almost certainly did substantially the same stuff.

Without steriods as well...

I don't get it.

Steroids=bad, but Gatoraid=okay. Because the chemicals in Gatoraid are just replacing what you sweat out. Sure.

But wait. What about Accellerade (it's kind of like Gatoraid + protein) which has been shown to reduce recovery time and add endurance. Or Endurox. And what about the slew of "natural" supplements that do wonders for modern athletes, but wasn't available to Hammerin' Hank. Or Staubach. Or Merckx.

Did Bonds do something that was against the rules at the time?

I'm inclined to believe that if he was a wonderful guy and did all he could to use his publicity to make people happy, then he'd be getting off lighter in the public eye. But the guy's an insufferable ***. A self-important prick. A complete *********. Therefore no free pass.

As the author said, using steroids without a prescription is illegal. Gatorade is not, unless you spike with vodka and you are under 21.

Then what was the beef about Macgwyer and Andro?

you mean he didn't get to 240 by just lifting weights and sucking down protein shakes?

Barry's got stiff joints and a bad back from standing in the outfield, and standing around on the base paths because so many pitchers walk him and are afraid to pitch to him. He'll sock one out of the park, into San Francisco Bay, where somebody in a canoe will pluck the ball out of the water, offer it on e-bay, then give in after Barry autographs some stuff. Barry gets what Barry wants.

I feel his pain. Life sucks, man. He's had a rough go of it.

This book is AWESOME.

MLB is even a bigger joke of an organization if they let him continue to rack of stats.

Hey it's possible. I almost got to 240 once, and I didn't eat any protein shakes or lift weights ;)

I don't think anything he did was considered illegal by MLB at the time that he did it.

Asinine, I know, but .....

Pretty soon they're going to be splicing muscle building genes directly and indetectably into the body, and it's all part of gaining a competitive edge. I say give it a rest.

This is why I do not support MLB. I will not pay to see them. The game has lost its way, just as the thuggy NBA.

Then what was the beef about Macgwyer and Andro?

Nothing at the time because Andro was legal. However, many people now think McGwire planted the Andro in his locker as a red herring so people would not assume/know he was using illegal steroids.
