Best album top to bottom for a woman to strip to?

perhaps, although R. Zombie made an album just for that purpose.

Anyone else think "Feelings" on Balance sounds like a rehashed "Kashmir"? I like the song but I always think of Kashmir when I listen to it.

Stripping to rock music?

Have y'all ever heard of R&B? Barry White? Teddy Pendergrass? Marvin Gaye? Etta James? Luther Vandross? R. Kelly? Johnny Gill? All of them and hundreds more did dozens of songs each that are better to strip to than anything Van Halen, Motley Crue or Rob Zombie ever put out.

That statement holds water if you are looking solely at their respective solo careers (Three Lock Box RMFO). However, if you are comparing Van Halen with DLR vs. Van Halen with Hagar, there is no f'ing comparison. DLR Van Halen was the greatest rock band of their time.

I'll simply disagree with you on this one. DLR was nothing more than a fall down drunk that each band member hated. I liked a few of the old Van Halen tunes but when Sammy came aboard is when the band really made some great tunes.

BTW, DLR is playing casinos these days while Hagar is still playing the bigger venues and recording new material. Also, Hagar has a much better voice, is a better songwriter and is much better in concert as well, not to mention has a hell of a lot better voice than DLR does.

Sammy Hagar couldn't even carry DLR's spandex tights when in their respective primes.

And calling the instrument that either one of them plays "a voice" is stretching it a little.

If you wanna hear decent Hagar, listen to Montrose. The rest of his stuff is crap.

Being loved by ones bandmates has nothing to do with whether the musical product and live show rocked, which they did massively. Hagar did bring mass appeal to VH as their sales increased and they became more of a top 40 band than the whiskey bar rock and roll group with DLR. I prefer the whiskey bar rock and roll group to the top 40 "Right Now" type tunes.

As for their current activities, I already conceded that Hagar's solo career rocks.

Dean, your a moderator, you can ban me as you've done in the past when we disagree, so I will just say that we have a difference of opinions on this subject and leave it at that. We know where each other stands on the topic.

Taxman, good points but when DLR left the band became a hit machine and I wouldn't exactly call all of the Van Hagar stuff Top 40. As I remember, the old Van Halen with DLR was played on the radio a bunch as well.

Taxman71

Hit Machine = Top 40. What other "hits" are there? The only quasi-top 40 album from the DLR days was 1984 which essentially forced DLR out of the band because he hated EVH's synthesizer sound from Jump which was too pop.

Look, post-Montrose Sammy was a top 40 guy from Three Lock Box to I Can't Drive 55 to his post-VH stuff. He brought that to VH when DLR left. 5150 and OU812 were very good records. Not as good as DLR VH, but very good. Everything after OU812 was so top 40, I quit buying them. I am a Sammy fan, but VH with Sammy did not sniff VH with DLR.

Thunder, while it's true I'm a moderator, I don't believe it's true that I've ever banned you. Especially for disagreeing with me. I can't speak for the other moderators though.

Hagar can't touch Ice Cream Man, Beautiful Girls, Panama, and a whole plethora of other DLR/VH tunes. Not when he was with VH.

Listen to Bad Motor Scooter by Montrose and I think you're listening to the best Hagar has to offer.

I was always extremely wary of OU812. I remember hearing that one of the guys had seen it written on a car or something. With the 1988 NCAA Championship tragedy still fresh in my head, I wondered if it might have been a reference to the Sooners.

Maybe I am still miffed that Sammy cut the concert short in the Cotton Bowl at the 1988 Monsters of Rock. I waited 12 hours to see VH and they cut it short because of his throat. Hey dude, I will listen to Eddie and the boys for another hour just keep going.

Then again, Metallica absolutely stole the show that day. Dokken was very good and the Scorpions surprised me how good they were. Anyone remember the opening act...Kingdom Come?

I worked my way down to the front row for the entire day. This one guy gashed his head to the front rail thrashing to Metallica and was slinging blood all over the place. Couldn't find my car or my friends after the concert, but it was worth it. Also, lost my shoes and shirt at some point during the Scorpions. Nothing better than being 17.

I still maintain that Gary Cherone was an ideal frontman for Van Halen. He was totally used to being the mediocre singer that played second fiddle to a shredding lead guitarist.

Whatever happened to Nuno Bettencourt, by the way? That guy could PLAY.
