Taken too soon both from baseball and from life.

The 1991 World Series is still one of my all time favorites.

Man, that shocked me to see that post heading. Kirby was one of the best pure hitters in baseball. His eye problem came out of nowhere and abruptly ended his career.

I don't know what to think of him as a person. A lot of dirt came out about his private life a few years ago. I'll reserve judgement because we don't know how much of that was true.

A former elite pro athlete dead at 44. Man!

I lost most interest in MLB after the strike, but for me, it finally jumped the shark when Kirby retired. Loved him, and still follow the Twins, if no one else.

Wow - didn't know that.
I was never a Twins fan, but you couldn't help but like Kirby as a player.

RIP :(

Kirby had significant cardiovascular issues, which contributed to his
glaucoma, blood pressure and other health problems.
