Ok, so I just got my computer back from Moore/Norman Vo tech. First off they were awesome! 20 buck to replace my ac jack.

Here is the crappy thing. First off they changed my wallpaper. Secondly, now I can't access the following websites:
MSNBC
Hotmail
facebook
myspace
american express
MBNA

I have taken off firefox and downloaded it again, also it won't let me open these in explorer either.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

I know of a place that can fix that for $20.

facebook
myspace

You should thank them for that.

So I'm guessing you can access pretty much anything else you want?

It might help if you posted what can you do with your computer. Obviously you are accessing the SO.

I can do most everything except access those sites and down load pimpzilla for my theme for firefox.

I'm having a hard time thinking of a symptom since it's both IE and Firefox that won't access those sites.

Not knowing what those pimple faced NickZepp wannabes were doing with it before they gave it back...I'm wanting you to scan for spyware and make sure your virus scanner is up to date.

There is some sort of block list in windows but I can't remember what it is called. Also, could it be something they bocked in your firewall software?

You might try going to Internet Options under the Control Panel. And Reset everything to default levels. You might have gotten really high security somehow.

do you have any firewall software active?

if you do, turn it off, just briefly, and see if you can access those sites. if you can, theres some funkyass setting on your firewall.

hosts file?
yeah, that's it.

Go to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

and open up a file called "hosts" in notepad. See if there are any of those sites listed in there. If so, make a copy of the file (just in case you screw it up) and delete those sites. Keep the localhost entry.

You're trying to get pimpzilla, myspace and facebook back?

On purpose?

Ok it seems like everything is working fine now. Actually I think it had something to do with my wireless router, because I can access everything now.

Thanks everyone for you help I really appreciate it!

Oh and yes I really wanted pimpzilla, facebook, and myspace. I have a really dirty joke to tell on myspace and I didn't want to do it from the work computer. :)

hmm, they do a non-system hardware change yet your OS settings are changed?
