I'm not saying he's not fair or objective, I just don't care for his pompous attitude. I understand that those guys have to be outrageous so that people will listen, but they all come off as a bunch of *********s.

I left my skyfi in the house the other morning, and the morning animals were reading Chuck Norris jokes. That **** is about a year old and just completely ripped from the internet. Why would anyone listen to 25 minutes of commercials per hour to hear someone reading the same jokes I got in an e-mail months ago?

Guys is it that tough to figure out? Every tv or radio show whether its comedy, politics, drama, sports or what the F ever, they are out for ratings. What makes Traber great?? He is their controversial guy who will speak his mind, stick by what he says, and sometimes **** you off which in return=RATINGS!!! Which also in return lands traber gigs with the diamondbacks, espn, channel 5, and so on...the guy knows what he is doing and how to market himself

I might as well get my two cents in, Traber isn't the best on air personallity I've heard, nor is he the worse. In general the Sprorts animal lacks quality anything. The fact that they over pay their talent especially Al Ashbeck who can't talk without sounding like he has a mouth full of crap, and then have to present 5 minutes of advertising every segment just to pay for this dip sticks salaries, isn't any wonder that no body wants to listen to them anymore. I live in Dallas, and I'll have to say that sports talk radio is much better down here. I never thought I would say anything bad about an Oklahoma station, but it's time to pull the plug on this guys, and get some new talent.

when it comes down to it, Traber is so pompous that I wish I could take off my arm just so I had something to beat him with. I went to one of his remotes at BWW, while on the air with Gotlieb I yelled somethign at him and he just looked up with this glare that I laugh at to this day. Everyone do yourselves a favor, invest in a Sirius or XM radio and listen to Jim Rome, at least when he's pompous he makes sense, and the only person Rome has challenged to a fight is Chrissy Everett

You guys don't know how good you got it. My home station is in Idaho and believe me, sports do not exist in potato land. The natives of the Spud State try to convince themselves that BSU is a legitimate team and that all others would go down on "the blue". They have no local sports radio like the Animal. I have to listen online just to get my oklahoma sports fix.

I'll admit, Traber is full of himself and I can't stand listening to Big Gay Al smack his food on the air, but I enjoy hearing callers and the crew go back and forth. It's entertaining, which is why we all listen to radio in the first place. Yeah, every now and then they throw in some stats to keep it educational, but it's mostly for entertainment.

It's funny though. Traber knows so much, he'll argue with every average joe caller that doesn't see it his way, but the minute you get a celeb or sports figure on air, he starts kissing their ***.

Also, how many times do you hear him mention he played "in the big leagues". Did he actually play for Baltimore or was he just in the farm league?

the commercial breaks on KREF and WWLS boggle the mind. every 12 minutes i think. even, in Denver which has lousy sportstalk (unless you want to hear about the Broncos all day in the off season), is at 20 minutes, 40 minutes and 5 before the hour.

I've never liked B. Tramel much but his radio show isn't bad. and I like Myron Patton OK when he's not spending half the show talking about the Lakers. KREF is MUCH better than the Animal.

and, for whoever mentioned buying Sirius or XM to get Rome.....it's on KREF and they stream. the WWLS streaming software is about as kickass as a Yugo or a brown Pinto wagon. it sucks in ways that haven't even been discovered yet.

I think Trabor does the voice of the bear in the Frontier Airlines ads.

I hate any and all sports radio that thinks it has to have 2 or more "personalities" on at the same time. More is less in radio. It is rare that two on-air personalities are tolerable (Mike & Mike on ESPN).

KRef has it right by letting ONE guy do the show and let callers get their takes in. Not one show on the urinal is worth listening to since they seem to have a 3 person minimum on every show.

oh I understand what you are saying, and I'm disagreeing that the blissful sound of silence on radio airwaves is lightyears better than The Animal.

I personally think the best of the shows we have on WDFN (http://www.wdfn.com/main.html) up here in Detroit is the 9am-12p show "It Is What It Is" hosted by Sean Baligian. He has on air input from his producer Marti and whoever is there to do the half hour/hour news updates (Matt Shepherd, Matt Dery, or Rob Otto). But it's mainly Baligian and the callers.

One thing I don't get about the Sports Animal is why don't they have a stat guy? A caller will call, ask them a stat, they won't know it and just won't bother to look it up. Hire me for some change and I'll do it for them, ffs.

Traber is a joke. Plain and simple. Also, I've heard that his calling people out to come to his remotes has gotten him in some trouble before. I can't remember the story, or where I heard it, so I know that it more or less butchers my credibility, but when I heard the story, I completely believed it, and I've got a pretty good BS detector after years of bartending... ("I'm sober, I swear;" and, "no, I don't have a boyfriend," etc...)

I can't listen to the Animal until ESPN radio starts either... although I like FOX Sports Radio on the REF just as well. ...and they have Jim Rome, so I'm pretty much stuck on 1400 AM.

My problem with Traber, et al... is that they're being paid WAY too much for how little work they do, and it's a cycle that they can't control now. They're paid so much for their jobs that the station has to run more ads than it should (Commercial Animal, anyone? Anyone?) to be able to cover costs. So, since they're always in and out of commercial, a LOT of air time is wasted talking about inane sh*t like where they are, and what they're eating, etc... ie - plugging the place from which their remote is being broadcast. Then, whenever they have more than one personality on the radio at a time, it ceases being caller-driven, which is what talk radio should be anyway, and starts being a conversation between two (or more) shallow, vacuous people who are talking about things that most listeners either don't care about hearing, can't afford doing, or both. (Respectively, their kids, their vacations, etc...)

Meanwhile, KREF is just taking phone call after phone call.

Now don't get me wrong. I honestly don't feel like there are many, if any, callers in the OKC area that are worth listening to either, especially when they're giving THEIR opinion instead of just asking a question. The MAJOR exception being James The Marvel. He might be annoying, etc... but at least he's fresh; he's different.

If the REF ever gets the signal strength to compete with the Animal, you'll see the Animal lose a lot of listeners, and then maybe those "brilliant sports minds" they've compiled will have to start doing their freakin' homework again instead of continuing to be caricatures of their former selves and arguing with and running off the callers.

Notes for Animal "personalities," (and I use that term VERY loosely):

- If you have to turn your volume up to make a point, it's probably not a good point.
- If you have to hang up on a caller, it's not because they're an idiot, it's because YOU'RE an idiot. You're the one who is supposed to be the expert. If you can't make them see your side of things, or at least explain it without violating Rule #1, then you're not doing your job effectively. Their job is to listen, yours is to enterain, not to hide behind your kill switch.
- If you have to call someone out to your remote, etc... you're in the wrong line of work. Find me someone that's ever offered to fight Myron Patton.
- Humility. Humility. Humility. There is ALWAYS someone who is going to know more than you; especially on a specific topic or two. Don't be afraid to defer. It makes you look more intelligent when you do this, not less intelligent.

That's all for now.

True. KRef is light years more entertaining than the animal. It is not like Berry Tramel or Toby Rowland are going to woo anyone with charisma, but they talk sports all the time, only have one person in the booth and their callers, esp. Tramel's on the drive home, are generally very intelligent sportswise and well prepared. I think people only call the animal to get a free hamburger from Johnnies.

As bad as Traber and Al have gotten, nothing in the history of radio will ever approach the suck that is the animal morning show. That is the poorest excuse for radio in any market, of an generation, at any timeslot in any genre.

I think the old school "Al and OU football" following is keeping that place going (in addition to KRef having a weak signal = no options for listeners). I occassionally hear Humphries when I am channel surfing in the afternoon. Wow, can a person's voice be as annoying as his inability to speak to anything but golf?
