Both sides are pretty stupid for not getting this thing resolved already.

If you're a fan of a team under the cap, you have to be giddy right now.
If you're a fan of a team over the cap, you have to be unbelievably ****ed right now.

If the salary cap is $95 million, as has been projected, the Cowboys will have $3 million to spend but easily can add another $9.6 million to that figure by adjusting the contracts of Marco Rivera and Jason Ferguson

There continue to be rumors the Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was), who extended numerous contracts in the past to deal with previous cap crunches, could have to play with 20 rookies on the roster in 2006.

20 rookies. That's pretty bad.

Hopefully the NFLPA learned something from the NHLPA, guess we'll see.

Scott D
3/2/2006, 01:02 PM
Difference is, the NFLPA and NFL are more likely to cave to public pressure of not having a deal than any of the other leagues due to the league's popularity. The decline (short term) of popularity and attendance in the other 3 of the 'Big 4' Sports after work stoppages isn't lost on at least Paul Tagliabue if not the owners.

For the record, the players are smoking some good stuff if they think the NFL is going to go without a salary cap. The secondary problem is that along with the NFLPA v. Owners battle going on you've also got the Big Markets v. the Little Markets going on as well (ie...Dallas not wanting to revenue share as much as they have been with say Cleveland).

LaVar Arrington will become a free agent after agreeing Sunday night to pay the Washington Redskins over $4 million in cash to get out of his contract with the team. As part of the deal, the Redskins have placed Arrington on waivers.

 That seems like an absolute steal to me. I sure wish Dallas had been more active in FA. I know it isn't over yet but they haven't really been in on any of the big name guys thus far.

I'd have been happy to have Culpepper or Brees as more of a long term solution at QB.

Brees is going to the Saints.

Top four of the draft gets interesting now. Saints can't take a QB if they sign Brees to a 6 year deal. Would the Titans take Vince or Leinhart? You know chow want leinhart, but Ncnair wants Vince. Vince could free fall.

Yep, they restructred his deal right before the new CBA went into affect:

Cutting Arrington put them at $18 mil under the cap. And Brunell will retire soon and that frees up another 13 mil in the future. Plus they don't have a first round pick, so they don't have to pay a first rounder $3 mil.

Time to turn the page, officially. The Eagles have terminated the contract of wide receiver Terrell Owens before they had to pay him a $5 million option bonus. Owens now is a free agent, available to shop himself to any team in the league. The teams expected to pursue him include the Dallas Cowboys, the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs.

I think this is a good move as long as the cowboys improve the OLine, draft a top safety, and sign another linebacker.

It'll be interesting to see if they draft safety or linebacker first. They may sign Marcus Coleman (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3272)at some point to help at safety. He's a 10 year veteran (32 this year), but played for Bill before with the Jets.

That or draft Mario Williams of North Carolina State.

according to cnnsi, the Jets covet Leinhart. And with the fourth pick overall, they could get that jump done. That is if they don't trade for Ramsey from Washington.

Former Cowboys receiver Keyshawn Johnson agreed to a four-year deal with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. Johnson, who was released by the Cowboys last week, received a $5 million signing bonus.

Johnson led the Cowboys in receiving last season with 71 receptions for 839 yards and six touchdowns.
