Mauldin said Hinrichs' family requested the bench, but could not offer a reason of why they would want to keep it.

How could the cop come the conclusion that it was accidental? When this is in the last line of the report...

Hinrichs left a note on his computer screen before the explosion. The note was written in the middle of a text file with other notes about bombs.

“F--- all this. None of you are worth living with. You can all kiss my a--,” the note stated.

From the Oklahoman...

A Norman police bomb expert said Tuesday he does not believe University of Oklahoma student Joel Henry Hinrichs III committed suicide by blowing himself up outside a packed football stadium.
"I believe he accidentally blew himself up," Sgt. George Mauldin said.

Mauldin said Hinrichs, 21, an engineering student, had two to three pounds of triacetone triperoxide, commonly known as TATP, in a backpack in his lap when it exploded Oct. 1.

When asked if he believed Hinrichs meant to enter the stadium with the explosives, Mauldin replied, "I don't believe he intended for an explosion to occur at that spot (on the park bench)."

"Some of us will forever wonder what he (Hinrichs) was doing at that time, at that place," Police Chief Phil Cotten said.

Hinrichs was sitting on a park bench 173 yards from the OU stadium during the second quarter of OU's night game against Kansas State when the TATP inside his backpack detonated.

"Someone saw him fiddling with it (the backpack) shortly before the explosion occurred. I think he got cocky, and it went off," Mauldin said.

I still maintain that this JUST being a suicide that just happened to occur feet away from 85,000 people is stupid. Not saying he was a terrorist, but I think he planned on much more damage and death happening, not just a way for him to stop living.

Considering that he had 2-3 POUNDS of TATP (even a small amount can cause an explosion, and is the explosive of choice by our crazy Muslim friends).

Does anybody else see the resemblance between this guy and Doogie Howser, MD?

but just because it is the explosive of choice of the muslim wackos doesn't really say anything at all. there could be a reason its the explosive of choice....most likely that its the easiest/cheapest to create, and gives the most bang for your buck...in which case it would make sense that if a college student wanted to make a bomb, he would use TATP, since college students in general, aren't well known for their financial resources.

the fact that he had notebooks of experimental outcomes with and without shrapnel, and the fact that he decided to go without shrapnel, indicates to me that while the explosion may have happened by accident, that he was planning on taking himself and only himself out, in dramatic fashion. I justify this because its likely that he found that shrapnel really had little impact on the damage done to an object in very close proximity to the explosive, and would only serve to do damage to people/objects within some extended radius of the blast. (I don't know this for a fact, but its an educated guess)...

my guess is that he wanted to blow himself up in plain view of a bunch of people, and that this was his primary concern. I don't think he wanted to go out of his way to injure/kill others in doing so, but I also don't think he cared that much if some innocent bystanders were hurt in the process.

combine the lack of shrapnel with all the excess stuff in the apt, i think he did about what he planned... with a large audience
