Americans apparently know more about "The Simpsons" than they do about the First Amendment.

Only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances.) But more than half can name at least two members of the cartoon family, according to a survey.

I'm proud to say I've never watched more than 10 minutes of the Simpsons.

I could've only gotten four, but I can list off at least a dozen Simpson's characters.

Figures.

By the way, it's not "freedom of religion", it's "separation of Church and State".

Who put that pole together anyway, faux news?

I don't think I've ever petitioned for redress of grievances in my life.

And boy howdy, do I have grievances.

maybe not, but you are benefitted every day of your life from grievances brought by others throughout American history.

The constitution only says Congress shall make no law establishing an official religion. That whole "separation of church and state" dealio is still pretty debatable.

BTW, a strict reading of the first amendment permits states to establish religions...which many had done by 1789. How 'bout them apples?

I think it's ironical that without the First Ammendment, the Simpsons may or may not be allowed to air.

This isn't that unusual, really. I remember hearing about a study done in Japan where only something like 10% of the people recognized their National Anthem, while a much, much larger number recognized the theme to a popular video game.
