This may be old news, but this just seemed amazing to me.

At Union, Wright will inherit a powerhouse program that has finished in USA Today's national Super 25 the past two seasons. The school has an enrollment of more than 3,500 and a stadium that seats 15,000 fans. He will succeed Bill Blankenship, who compiled a 154-26 record in 14 seasons with the Redskins.
Wright's salary at Union, including duties as an athletic director and income from camps, is expected to approach $100,000. He is expected to move to the school following spring break in April and be in place to conduct that program's spring practice in May.

the Tulsa World had the figure at $90K, so that's where I got that number.

I mean, I know they are awesome and in one of the richest districts in the state, but wow! Am I making a big deal about nothing?

man, I went into the wrong profession!

seriously, I thought most coaches were paid just a little bit better than the other teachers. Obviously Union is different, but still that jumped out at me.

Seriously, I would have thought he would make more than that, especially being the AD also.

Where did Blankenship go again?

Blankenship is not coaching anywhere yet. Still trying to get into college coaching.

Sickening when you compare this to what a normal teacher makes in Union or Tulsa.

The Ennis coach Sam Harrell is the father of the probable Tech starting qb Graham Harrell btw.

The new coach runs the option. I think the buzz said he passes twice a game on average.

that sux.

LOL.....what kind of HS "recruits" a new coach from a different state. Especially one that isn't particularly close. Wow. Thought one of the old assistants was in line to get the job next? Thought Blankenship had a job at TU?

That doensn't seem like too much, considering he is the AD as well.

I guess one as wealthy as Union.

To my knowledge, Blankenship doesn't have a job anywhere. I could've misssed it but I think he's still the Union AD and will be until he gets a coaching job somewhere.

I seem to recall that the new coach would not be the AD...that's the way Blankenship was set up but I don't think the new guy will be. Pretty sure Blankenship is still AD at this point.

Again, could be wrong.

I love the free market. Imagine how much money this football team brings to the district by winning football games. If they sell-out Union-Tuttle six times he'll be worth the money.

Well then if you were paid by the hour- I would like to see how that breaks down- I would not complain unless you think you can do a better job at a less salary.

I hate the "Can you believe how much money this person makes conversation." It's sophmoric. If you could do better for cheaper, someone would hire you. It's as simple as that. And you probably didn't go into the wrong profession, you're just not good enough at the one you chose. I've heard people say the same thing about Stoops - all I'll say is that we could still have Blake for half the price. You get what you pay for. If you don't value what you got, maybe you shouldn't be a fan of the game.

Except for being about 30K too high, that's exactly right.

as do I. Not trying to get into the class warfare thing here, just was surprised. I always pictured high school coaches as not making a lot of dough but just doing it for the love of the game. Lucky guy that gets to do what he loves and make some serious bank while he's at it:)

Does the $90K cover recruiting expenses? ;)
