so last nite i'm surfing, and the browser locks up on me......so i close it out, and reopen it.....but a little window box pops up, asking me which profile i want to use.....gives me a default option and a "jk and mrs jk"....so i pick the latter and it tells me its in use...so i pick the default, and get a browser with bookmarks i havent seen in ages

and i cant figure out how to go back to the original profile? do i reinstall mozilla hoping that when i do, it will prompt me to choose from any old profiles?

so what happened is that when firefox crashed, some part of it stayed active on the computer, and because of that it thinks it's using your profile.
if you go to your task manager (ctrl+alt+del), you might be able to find the process and kill it manually. if not, restarting the computer will definately clear that up.

what Ike said . . . my entire default profile crashed on me and I had to back it up, delete it and then import my bookmarks. I think I had an extension that went bad or something.

so restart the computer. it helps flush out your memory anyways from time to time.

<edit: it might also be that firefox spawns or had spawned some other process called something other than firefox which was tied to your profile. I wouldnt know what kind of process to look for, but thats my guess.>

thats really wierd if it is....my only guess is that somehow your profile file may have become corrupted. wierdness.

I've had the same problem with Firefox randomly asking me which profile I want to use even though the default profile will not work anyway.

Restarting the computer is the only way I've been able to fix it.

I had that happen last year...alot and could never figure out how to restore the original profile, never tried that though.

Good idea now if I can just remember it.

start menu>run>type this in: firefox.exe -profilemanager>click ok

You should create a backup profile and back up your default because sometimes it gets corrupted and you can lose all your bookmarks.

Exactly. Luckily I was able to import all of my bookmarks so I didn't loose them.

But I will have to redownload all of my extensions.
