View Full Version : The VP tried to make me feel bad for leaving

He said something to the effect of spending $15k on recruiter fees and flying me in to intrview. I wanted to say, 'Sounds like you're problem, not mine. If you would have paid my mileage for $43.65 you wouldn't have wasted $15k'.

He told me that today would be my last day here. Best news I've heard from him in a while.

I should've. I just laid out the reasons I felt like I needed to work somewhere else and was very polite about it. He told me to give him a holler later on if I wanted to come back.

You should give him a call and tell him how much happier you are.

JohnnyMack

You really left over 43 bucks?

It's not the amount. It's the principle!

10 to 1 says the Veep let him go early to avoid the possibility of a pee-pee attack. :D

you should have told him that "ironically, the company i'm going to reimburses for mileage but never would have paid to relocate me here"

That $43.65 was the best investment I've ever made. Kabookie is right about it being the principle. There were other reasons. When I took the job they told me that I'd be in estimating no longer than 3 months, I've been asking to get out to the field and getting ya-ya responses, I had one project manager tell me that I had to stand in line behind two other project engineers and that didn't sit well with me at all. I've seen the problems they have on their jobs and it's pathetic to have 4+ years experience and to have the problems on simple jobs that those two guys have.

you should have made a 14 point checklist of facism and put check marks next to all the things that applied to your boss.

Loudly nail the Indianette in the copy room during the middle of the day and I bet they won't be so upset that you're leaving.

I'm in the wrong field if some companies have to pay $15k to find employees.

Usually they pay a (fairly high, like 15-25%) percentage of a year's salary for a hire (or they mark up the hourly, if hourly). What that means is that 1TC is reasonably well paid. ;)

A recruiter brought (a team of 5) us over to a new firm a few years back. The fee on that deal was $500,000. And was negotiated down a fair bit. It was a good year for that recruiter. Plus our analyst got to nail her after our closing dinner. The rest of us were married so he had no competition.
