(Feb. 23, 5:30PM ET) -- Katie Holmes has finally decided college is not for her, and now her dad wants his deposit back from Columbia University. Only TMZ has the lowdown.

Tom Cruise's fiancee was accepted to the prestigious school back in 1998, the year 'Dawson's Creek' premiered. Her dad, Martin Holmes, plunked down a $500 "non-refundable" deposit. Because of 'Dawson's,' Holmes kept deferring her admission to Columbia, where starlets like Anna Paquin, Julia Stiles and Maggie Gyllenhaal were enrolled at the time.

Last week, eight years after Holmes was accepted, her dad wrote to Columbia's undergrad admissions office withdrawing his daughter's name and requesting his 500 bucks back.

because i'm sure she hasn't earned more than that since then...

Somebody needs to learn the meaning of "non-refundable", and his name rhymes with Fartin' Domes.

A guy I work with is from Toledo. His younger sister went to Catholic high school with Katie Holmes and said she is genuinely a nice, sweet, likeable person, not one of those phony popular but mean girls. How rare we hear that about someone who made it big in Hollywood. How in the world did she end up with Tom Cruise and his cult?

I don't know if I've ever seen Toledo referenced on this board.

Just an observation.

From my co-worker's description, it does not sound very appealing - very cold winters, dying northern industries, stubborn unions, ethnic and racial strife. He says Toledo has a lot of old world neighborhoods like Polish, Italian, Irish, Hispanic, etc., full of first and second generation Americans. Those old world neighborhoods are becoming run down as the later generations move up and leave. He brings back some of the greatest Polish sausages and desserts from the old Polish delis and pastry shops. You can't buy that stuff in Lexington, Kentucky.

Everyone I ever knew from Toledo GTF out as soon as they were able.

That said, the Mud Hens have a nice minor league ballpark.
