I think it is probably the #1 factor but not nearly the only factor. Gonzaga for example will have no shot at a #1 seed because even if they win out their RPI probably won't budge from where it is now. In the case of a team like KU or George Washington they will almost certainly be seeded higher (3-5) than their RPI would suggest (9 or 10 seed). I don't know that the committee justs takes a team with an RPI of 20 and gives them a 5-seed over a team with a better record and an RPI of 30.

Our RPI suggests that we are looking at about a 3-4 seed if the tourney started today although I think that even if we beat KSU and OSU handiliy our RPI will drop a little.
