I checked the reports on the school system and it appears Ada High School ranks in the top 25% in regards to scholastic performance. That was my biggest concern.

Are there any posters on this board who have lived in Ada or know any other details on the town and school system?

My grandpa lives in Stratford. It's 15 miles from Ada.

That help?

Their mascot is the Cougars.

Ada is home to the original Bob's BBQ.

East Central University is located there.

They have won like 287 state championships in football.

Their football team cheats. Cheating cheaters. Just kidding, I don't know if they really do.

I grew up in Konawa . . . just north of Ada. I'm a proud ECU grad. Ada is really growing. Several new hotels are being built, a couple of new restaurants as well (Chili's and Applebee's). It's not paradise by any means, but quite a bit better than Amarillo IMO. :D Hey cvs . . . my wife's grandpa that passed away earlier this month lived in Stratford.

You are only about 20-30 minutes from Sulphur which has a nice little park with freshwater springs. There are also two nice lakes there in Sulpher (Arbuckle Lake and Veterans Lake).

Too bad it stinks like Sulphur ;)

Arbuckle is nice, but it seems like a big ol bathtub if you get more than 20 boats on it to me. :D

If you want to go to a lake, just go to Konawa. Great fishing, great watersports.

Ada is kind of like an island out by itself. But, if you're in Amarillo, you know all about that. Ada doesn't have a cow poo smell.

Service Chevrolet is nice to deal with.

Believe me....that's a point that has not been overlooked. :D

You guys are such big help.

Nothing real negative so I'll take that as a plus.

I've been in Amarillo for the past 12 years and i'm not sure I can go back to being a f'in hillbilly without a transition period. ;)

Is there girl's basketball program any good? My 12 year old daughter is a great little point guard.

I spent a month in Ada one weekend.

You have my deepest sympathies.

Just kidding!! I would love to be able to move back to Oklahoma.

it's definiely a small-college town. But it's the 2nd biggest city in SE Oklahoma, and like someone else said, they have a lot of things that bigger cities have.

Ada is a powerhouse in a lot of sports in 5A. Seems like they won a girls BBall title a few years ago.

I have relatives in Ada. A cousin and his wife - he used to work quality control for Frito-Lay or something, he'd always take home the cases of salsa that didn't quite meet standards.

Not that that helps your decision any.

Ada has a newly-opened Home Depot.

A nice pizza/Italian place called Papa's.

Good Mexican at Eduardo's.

Standard Wal-Mart with McDonald's inside.

Most of it is owned by the Chickasaw Nation. NTTAWWT.

Nice little town.

IMO Byng's girls basketball program is probably better . . . or at least it used to be. Heck, Latta's program might be too.

Errr...If Amarillans aren't f'in hillbillies, they're close enough that there's no visible difference. ;)

Can't be a f'in hillbilly if there's no f'in hills! Plus, I've been in Texas for the past 12 years and all of this attitude of superiority has rubbed off on me.

I have an uncle that lives in Ada. He's a good man. When I was little he used to take me to a park that had a lake and a huge sunken down cage of monkeys. I wanted to go see the monkeys everyday. Monkeys are great.
