View Full Version : Golf Thread- What's your favorite club?

What club or iron do you enjoy hitting most and/or that you have the most confidence in the results when swinging it?

I like hitting my driver the most but I have the most confidence in my 6 or 8 iron. I'm not very long off the tee (200-220 yards) like some golfers so I need to depend on my 3-5 to get home but I just haven't gained that much confidence in those clubs.....

Hmmm......good question.

As sucky as I am at irons, I would say my 8-iron at this point. If it weren't for my new, bigass hook, I'd have said 5-wood. I probaby hit that as consistently "solid" as any other club (which isn't saying a lot, but you asked so....).

Have you considered a hybrid? I've always heard to dump your long irons and get a couple of hybrid clubs to replace them.

My favorite club is my 52 degree gap wedge.

I've not considered cause I can hit my long irons well just not consistently well. With my limited leg strength I can get my 3 out to only about 180 if I'm hitting it well and I have a 3 wood that can get me to 180 or 190/200 if I'm swinging it well. Do the hybrids help that much?

Glad to see some golf talk on here!

Has anybody bought a set of the Mizuno MP-32? I'm thinking about buying a set of those. I hit one at a golf show a couple weeks ago and didn't really know what to expect since I had never hit a blade before but those things felt sweet everytime I hit it. Of course, it was indoors off of a mat but I was definitely impressed. If I get some I'm going to get fitted for the for the first time. Anybody have any advice on the fitting? And has anybody else been fitted and have you noticed improvement due to the fitting? Thanks!

I hesitate to steer anyone to blades anymore, only for the fact that unless you are very true ball striker, there's no benefit to the blades other than the "cool" factor. Which is very high with the 32's. I personally would rather see you in some MP-60's ...a forged cavity and very deserving of a test drive.

as for getting fit, if it's just a static fitting, it's a good place to start. But you should get both static and dynamic fitted. just because the measurments say you need such-and-such, doesn't mean you will be able to hit them consistently. Get static fit, and then take a few 7 irons in that measurment to the range....and a couple of other 7 irons that are on either side of your measurments....you will get a much truer feel for what "fits" IMO.

good luck.

you shouldnt get him a brand unless he's hit them before and likes the feel......get him a gift certificate for a certain amount, and send him to the golf store to get fitted....he needs to let the store tape up the irons and let him give them a try

you could get a dozen different recommendations on sets, but its possible none of them would be something he'd like hitting

jk is right, don't buy anything until he hits them first. Some golf stores will let you demo clubs(usually the 6 iron) for a couple of days. I would suggest that if they will let you since he can hit them outside on grass as opposed to hitting off of turf into a net.

PT, you should have purchased a Cameron Putter. They won't make you play better but all of your friends will think that you're a playa. And although you might only have one round all year where you putt well like Tiger, it will increase your golf knowledge, thinking that you know everything and are better than everyone else. Be warned though ...you need to get the latest Cameron putter because anything older than the latest year model ...wil make you look like a cheapskate and you'll lose playing partners in the process..
