Does anyone know how to transfer recorded programs frm the Cox DVR to another media?

I have a DVD burner on my lap top and I just can't figure out how to get some of the saved programming from the DVR to the DVD.

I have a Dave Mathews concert recorded in hi-def live from Red Rocks that I would love to 'back-up'.

TIA and does anyone kmow where I can get Boomer Sooner ringtones?

Well, it all depends. Are any of the usb ports on the dvr hot?

I thought I read on avsforums that the usb ports are dead on cox hardware.

check out avsforums for yourself...

Some of 'em have other connections that are hot.

Worse comes to worse, s-video.

I would think S-Video would work. Haven't tried it, but there is an option to copy to VCR. I would think that you could play it to your pc that way with the right vid card.

That's how I've been burning off of my digital box.

Just aim your webcam at the TV. That's what I call "high-tech redneck."

There is a USB port on the front of the box but I was told by the install 'tech that it wasn't hot.

I guess the only option is s-out from the box. I have a hi-def out from the tv as well as audio but have no in to the laptop.

Any other ideas? Converters, cables etc?

There is no copy option on my box, this was suggested by tech support. They were less than helpful.

If you don't have a video capture card on your computer (unlikely on a laptop) you'll have to get an external capture device like Dazzle or something like it. Also, when you capture it to a file, it will be realtime, meaning you'll have to play out whatever you're recording.

I'm thinking about getting one of these (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6840118&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01151&id=1093468042221) for my laptop so I can hook it in to my DirecTV while I'm out on the road. It's got capture capabilities in mpeg 1, 2,, & 4.

I have Windows Media Center, any thoughts on working with that?

I'm not HIDEF, however, I have a DVR 8000. No way to copy stuff off (except s-video) so I just started recoding to the PC where I have more control over quality settings etc.

I read the 8300 will let you hook up an external hard drive....

Check out your DVR Model at Scientific Atlanta (http://www.scientificatlanta.com)

there might be hacks available, but I don't know.

Does media center have it's own capture software?

Not that I can find but you can purchase a tuner with DVR type software. I didn't.

Not one that functions.

Only buy a tuner card if -
It's an hd card and/or it tunes digital cable channels...else just get a capture card with s-video and hook up a cable box.

That's strange, cause it's an option on ours. Go to List, select the show, and it should be one of the options. You may need to scroll to see it.

Firewire is the best option - you get the original digital signal. There's a thread on AVSforum on how to set up your computer to capture the stream. Unless the channel is protected, that is. Then your best bet is svideo to a capture card. Or, there's some capture cards with component inputs, but I think they are big money.
