basically, the first two are the same pen, one in gold the other in platinum. the third is a shorter, fatter pen, same overall style with a red stone. I like the first two because they're classic, but the third would be neat because it's a graduation gift from OU, so the red stone is nice (but unfortunately no platinum option on #3)

Not a woman, but I vote platinum.
I'm not a big fan of gold.

none of the above. I prefer fountain to rollerball :D
but aside from that I voted #2 because I like silver better than gold. But #3 has a good shape to it--it looks like the weight and balance would be nice.

Oh, and since its for a woman, does one of them have a vibrating tip?
:mack: :D

Man. One of the few others who likes fountain pens. Mine keep getting stolen out of my office-I have a brief frisson of happiness when I realize that the person who stole it will likely have a bunch on ink on their hands shortly.

Me? I usually go Waterman. I like Parkers as well, but they're spendy.

I heard they like 'em shorter but fatter, but that could be a myth.

yeah, my dad likes Parkers. He also likes Mont Blanc, but they're expensive :D
He doesn't usually care about the collectability (whether they're perfect mint condition). He'll buy old ones cheap on ebay and fix them up so they work really well.
I used to use a little Schaeffer and pencil set all the time... I think I left them in Kansas.

I've heard that as well, so go with the one with the extra girth.

Have you been to the mont blanc store in Penn Square? It's awesome.

I like the Pelikan Gaudi

only $1,095. If you want something more reasonable, the Visconti Master:

list at $500 for the rollerball, the Fountain Pen Hospital will sell it for quite a bit less. A little more unique than a Mont Blanc.

I like Pelikan... :D
I was close with $200--I was thinking the $200-350 range for a pen and pencil set.

I'll end up buying her pen at the store in case she wants to exchange, now I'm looking for me, because every construction worker needs a really expensive pen.

Oh, and of the three options, I also vote for the platinum, #2.

find a pen world catalog/magazine sometime. or a fountain pen hospital one. they have some awesome pens--fountain and ballpoint.

those Pelikan rollerballs, do they have a screw on cap, or does it just snap on? I like rollerballs better but I don't want to have to unscrew the cap, so I would probably just get the twist action ballpoint pen.

How do you type with all of these? Do you press the keys down with the tip?
You people are weird. That's what we have fingers for!

That's what public/private key encryption is for, silly.
