That doesn't sound like something a type-A personality that wants to teach would do.

first of all it, this sounds exactly like something every teacher I ever had would do.

second of all, the type-a part of my personality is what's making me sick. I have asked everyone around if there's anything I should be doing and they tell me to enjoy the down time because I've been on a crappy job (good for the company profitwise, crappy for me in terms of working conditions). To me this feels like wasting time, and it's killing me.
