A buddy of mine wants to buy something in the 32-37 inch range. Saving space would be nice as he has a crt now with the 32 inch. What's the best deal out there that won't be obsolete in 2 years?

Toshiba 37HMX195 for about3k
or
Sony KDLV32XBR1 for around 2397.00

Those would be the best choices right now. (iwould personnally go with the Sony)

You need to make recommendations for sets that are more in the $1,500 range. What are we paying you for anyway? :D

You may find a Sharp LC32DA5U for as low as 1500.00 but that will only be HD ready.

If you want the best bang for buck. Try the Sony KDFE42A10 for 1597.00
Its a little bigger 39.3/8 wide 28.5 h and 14.5 d but it will be the most for the least.
