Is there a shop here in Edmond who installs dana 44's into the rear?

I got the dana 35's with the 3.07s.....ouch!!!!

ok, i was trying to figure out how you had already broken the Axles on your new Jeep :D

do you just need new gears? a bigger rearend would just be to handle more power, right?

I could regear the rear and the front, but the rear axle isn't very strong, as seen in the video. The gears are 3.07 which are way too high. The lower gear, especially with larger tires, is too much for the weaker stock axle.

My Jeep's a daily driver so I haven't done much research on who does what for trail modifications.

You might check out the Oklahoma Trailchasers website and see if anyone can make any recommendations.

Jerk, great video! I've seen this happen many times with the 35c and I've also seen it happen to a buddies Ford 9". I ran a 97 TJ with the 35c and a Detroit locker for four years without snapping anything, but I also have a little more subtle driving style. I've ran many 4+ trails in Moab, Colorado and Phoenix and drove away thanking my lucky stars that little 35 beeotch didn't break!:D

If you're not going to be rock crawling, just throw a Super 35 kit in it (30 spline axles) and weld a truss on. This setup will take care of you, unless you decide to hit the rocks hard with a set of 37's or bigger.

What size tires are you running (going to run)?

I don't know yet. I hear nothing bigger than 33" or so with dana 35's. Problem is, I also need to regear the front end and rear end to a lower ratio. I might as well do it all in one swoop. I do not plan on doing any hard core driving, BUT I would like to at least jump a few sand dunes at little sahara. The serious 4 wheeling will come when, a long time from now, the thing is payed off.

Thanks.

I ran BFG MT 35's on my TJ with 4.56 gears and didn't have any problems. It IS pushing the limit on the 35c, but like I said, I wasn't out there purely powering into the rocks either.

My TJ was an auto as well, so that's something you should think about. If you have a manual tranny, I'd go up to 4.88's with a 35 inch tire. If you're going to be running 33's, I'd go with a 4.56 gear ratio. That way you can always step up to a bigger tire down the road.

I was also going to tell you, if you're going to spend the dime on a D44, you might as well check prices on Ford 9's or a moderately built D60. While both are not bullet proof, they will definitely be the stronger options... Regardless which one you go with and you're going to be jumping... weld a truss on it. It's a very cheap way of extending the life of your axles....

Good luck!
