SOONERS GOING TO NATIONALS!

OKLAHOMA TO FACE IOWA STATE IN FIRST ROUND OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

February 15, 2006 - In only their third year of existence and their second year competing in the top division of collegiate club hockey, the University of Oklahoma® Sooners hockey club was officially notified this morning that it was going to suburban Philadelphia to compete in the 2005-2006 ACHA Division 1 National Championships on March 2-5, 2006.

The ACHA D1 final regular season ranking was released earlier today and the Sooners came in at No. 14 with 194 votes. The top 16 teams in the final regular season ranking are eligible to participate in the National Championship Tournament. The ACHA Division 1 National Championship Tournament is hosted by West Chester University on March 2 through 5, 2006 at the Ice Line ice arena in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Pursuant to ACHA guidelines, “Tournament seeding for the 16 team format shall be determined by a vote of the top 18 teams ranked in the most current national rankings at the completion of ranking #9. The Division 1 Commissioner shall poll each of the eighteen teams to determine seeding.”

The reseeding has been completed and the Sooners are seeded 12th in the National Championship Tournament field. As the 12th place team, Oklahoma will face the 5th seeded team, the Cyclones of Iowa State University on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. EST.

The teams competing in the 2005-2006 ACHA Division 1 National Championship Tournament are as follows:

5. Iowa State
6. Weber State
7. Lindenwood
8. Arizona State
9. Michigan-Dearborn
10. Arizona
11. Duquesne
12. Oklahoma
13. Robert Morris (IL)
14. Delaware
15. Mercyhurst
16. West Chester

Here is the schedule for the National Championship Tournament’s first round games on Thursday, March 2, 2006:

Game 3 – 12:30 PM (6) Weber State vs. (11) Duquesne
Game 4 – 1:00 PM (3) Penn State vs. (14) Delaware

Game 6 – 3:30 PM (8) Arizona State vs. (9) Michigan-Dearborn
