my brother just qualified as expert on the automatic grenade launcher.

me thinks the army should have at least talked to me prior to making this decision.

anyway, i have a couple of pics to post but for some reason putfile isnt working, so i'll try again later.

i did ask him if after javelin training, he was moving on to the shotput and discus...... :)

Infantry. I'm curious, what is javelin training? We didn't do that in Air Defense Artillery school.

javelin is a shoulder fired anti tank weapon....apparently with better capabilities than the AT-4

there's a video of it here (http://www.guzer.com/videos/javelin_tank_missle.php)

I know, but when I was there in '87, it had everything a young LT could find to get in trouble. I drove right down Victory Drive a couple years ago, and it still is a dump. It'll never change.

JK,

Is your last name "Santee" by chance (per your son's nametag on his BDU's?)

If so, kinda cool.

FWIW, that is the name of a great tribe of extinct indians from Mrs Homey's home state of SC. Also, many experts agree, the worlds' best striped bass fishing is the Santee-Cooper Reservoir in SC (so named because it is fed by SC rivers of those names.)

Lots of stuff/places/things have "Santee" in their name in SC.

Oh, and congrats to junior. Tell him for me to go kill bad people and stay safe.

IMHO, God especially loves the infantry, because they go forth to close with and destroy the enemy on foot with little between them and the bad guys but their faith, courage and good old American common-sense -- which makes them pretty darn unbeatable.

yes that is my last name......and now a lil history lesson for the you the teacher. Santee is NOT an indian name. The Santee Sioux tribe in the Dakota's (their reservation is in northeast Nebraska) is so named because a Santee gave the tribe a large piece of land. Santee is French Hugenot, and the Charleston area is where a majority of them landed when they fled their persecution. The rest landed in Pennsylvania/Ohio. Charleston is the location of the remaining French Hugenot church in this country ( i dont know of any others).

I've heard about the fishing on the Santee-Cooper and would love to go. The closest we've come is stopping on the bridge over I-95 there in Santee, SC for a photo-op!

Santee is also the name of the Lounge at the stadium, courtesy of distant relative Jack.....

Infantry = Tip of the Spear in the War on Terrorism.....
