Somebody, at some point, made the leap of faith and thought that he could fly off of that suicide ramp and land safely hundreds of feet below.

Was he trying to kill himself when he discovered this "sport"?

What else are you going to do if you lived in Norway back in the day? When you look at it, pretty much every winter olympic sport is in general a horrible idea.

There are a lot of potential sports that never made it past the first time. The trick is getting a second time to happen. And that ALWAYS involves idiocy, alcohol, and some guy saying "I bet I can do that better'n you!"
