man, when i was an undergrad at OU (1995-1999), i think the students did a good jorb. At the time, BB is all we had (Boo was busy stocking up for the MNC in 2000--insert sarcastic smiley here).

Maybe students succ these days? Maybe they're too busy working on their horns-down hand signs for non-UTgames (insert another smiley thing).

Well congrats on a very well won game.

Damn it all to hell though it was ugly for us.

Still, I have long term faith in Scott Drew. He's bringing in recruits he should never be able to bring in at this stage at Baylor. And he's won two more games this season then many predicted us to win.

I'm not making excuses that would be Aggy - we played like crap, but it'll take awhile for us to build anything from the ashes of the Bliss era.

Baylor's coach pulled all the starters at one point and put in all the back ups and Baylor got better. They suck, baaaaad.

They weren't giving their best so Drew pulled them for some guys who might. That's a KMR thing to do too. There's no denying we're bad, but we've had so little to work with. When Drew came in just after Blisstake we didn't even have enough players to really field a team, so he held open tryouts for anyone at Baylor. We ended up with a team of mostly walk on students that were already at school. However, he was able to recruit some pretty good talent and then we got hit with sanctions just shy of the death penalty.

Like I said it's going to be rough for awhile.

I still think that should change, in all sports. The coach committing the violations should get the penalties, not the new guy trying to clean up after him.

And yet the school allowed it to happen under their watch and should shoulder some of the burden...

I know it's fashionable to feel sorry for Baylor and the poor kids who're playing there, but Scott Drew and all those kids knew Baylor was going to get the hammer before they signed up.

Well, I don't think anyone really disagrees with your statement. I mean there are consequences to breaking the rules; we all know that. It's an issue of severity. All things considered after the penalties we imposed on ourselves; what end was served by the severity of the sanctions? Everyone involved expected sanctions, and I admit they were justified. However, the severity of those sanctions is questionable. This is a matter of opinion obviously.

And honestly who wouldn't be a little peeved about being punished for something you had no part in? I know they knew what they were getting themselves into at Baylor, but wouldn't any student athlete be mad about having half his season taken away becuase of something a coach did before you even got there?

I'd also like to point out that nearly everyone involved in this is now gone. Sloan resigned as President and moved to Chancellor. Stanton the AD is gone. Bliss is gone. Every player but one is gone. And even happier but unrelated to this event...Steele is gone.

Hopefully after this season all of that mess will be totally behind us and we can finally and truly move forward. At the end of this season I never want to hear the words Dotson or Bliss again. Baylor is like one big family, and I hate that the family and university that I love with every bone in my body has had its reputation soiled in this way. I hate that almost everytime I see Baylor mentioned in the media it includes the obligatory mention of Bliss' corruption and the murder of a teammate. We're a great institution with great kids and a faculty and staff who truly care about the students and the school.

We're putting ourselves back together and trying to create a winning attitude throughout the entire athletic department. This mess and this season will be a distant memory when we're on top and the rest of the conference learns to FEAR THE BEAR. :D

SOMEONE DIED AND A UNIVERSITY OFFICIAL ATTEMPTED TO COVER IT UP!!!!!!

You're complaining about the severity of the penalties? SOMEONE DIED!

Well, to be fair nobody tried to cover up the fact that he was dead. That was pretty obvious. The Dennehy murder and NCAA violations weren't EXACTLY one in the same issue. The problem was that after the murder there was a lot of scrutiny on the basketball program which led to the uncovering of the NCAA violations including Bliss telling players to portray Dennehy as a drug dealer and paying for tuition and other expenses for the players.

The University is ultimately responsible for not keeping the athletic department and basketball progam on a tighter leash. They surely won't make that mistake again. However, I'd look at the way we responded to the situation as compared to other universities who try to shirk responsibility after getting caught. Our President resigned (though admittedly a lot of it had to do with non-scandal related management), our AD was fired, our coach was fired, the school let any players transfer out who wanted out, we opened up an investigative panel to air all of our dirty laundry, we put sanctions and peanalties on ourselves, and we entirely changed the way the school manages the Athletic Department. After all that we were all ready and even willing to accept NCAA sanctions to put it all behind us, but I don't think anyone thought they'd be as severe as they were.

I guess there are some who think a death penalty would have been in order.

Parse words all you want. You can say all you want that technically Baylor was only being punished for violations of pay-for-play rules and recruiting issues.

A player on the Baylor basketball team lost his life. He was killed by another player on the team. The head basketball coach tried to cover it up because it might have revealed him paying for some non-allowed expenses.

Your response is that "Well, hey, the university fired everybody involved and changed some oversight procedures!" You act like Baylor's actions were somehow heroic and talk about other schools that "shirk" their responsibilities-find me ONE university that had a head coach cover up a player's murder of another player that DIDN'T at the very least fire the entire coaching staff.

You're COMPLETELY missing the point.

That's an appropriate response to finding pay-for-play. That's an appropriate response for academic fraud. BOTH of which would have landed Baylor on probation from the NCAA regardless of self-imposed sanctions (unless those sanctions included probation.)

Baylor University employees tried to cover up the fact that a Baylor student-athlete murdered another student-athlete. A person lost his LIFE, and you're complaining that not being able to compete in some freaking basketball games is an unfair sanction for the university?

Tell you what, I'll make you a deal:

If an OU player in ANY sport commits murder and isn't IMMEDIATELY kicked off the team, out of school, and handed over to the authorities for prosecution as soon as their head coach finds out about it, I'll call for an all-sports death penalty at OU. The head coach has to KNOW that the kid committed murder.
